Questions from a Newbie
I have been deep in a car search for a few weeks now and have settled on the XB. Thank you all for the informative posts ScionLife!
I must spend less than $12,000 on an XB and have some questions:
1) Should I spend the extra money to get a used one from a scion dealer so that I can get the $495 certified warranty?
2) If you buy from a private seller or non-Scion dealer, can you then get the car certified at a Scion dealer?
3) Anything I should look out for when checking out available XB's?
Have a great day!

1) A warranty is nice, but there are a few things you should consider.
If you are planning on doing mods to the box, then you will most likely void much, if not all of the warranty. If you don't want to do mods then I guess it would really depend on how much you plan on driving the car.
If you drive the car all the time and this is your only car then a warranty may do you justice - any time your car is broken is down time for you, and that just means lost money... a warranty can help you get your car back on the road quick.
If you don't drive it all the time, or you have another car, then you could surely do without it. If you are tight on money, no warranty would almost force you to get your hands dirty and do the work yourself. More hands on work means more experience for you...
2) If you are wanting to get it certified for the warranty then buying from a private seller is prolly not your best option. I am sure that the certification process (if it's even allowed) will be costly, then after it is vertified, you will have to buy the warranty.
3) I don't think there is anything special that you would need to look at. Just keep in mind that it is a vehicle and do the common checks - brakes, springs, shocks, engine... the works. If you are buying from a private seller and don't know much about cars, then I would highly recommend you take it to a shop and pay them $50 just to look at the engine and what not to make sure nothing will break soon.
Congrats on your decision to get a Scion and welcome to the Scion Community!
