i dropped my car off at the shop this morning to have them figure out my clinking... and while there i asked them what it would cost to have them install springs on my car also (S-Techs) and he pulled it up on his computer and said "WOW!" he said their computer said it was an 8hour change ($80 an hour) but he said he would look into it when they were fixing the sound...

8 hours sound right to install springs on our car?

Sounds right for a shop to charge 8hrs of labor, but it should take them about 4-5hrs top if they know what there doing. I did mine by myself with only a floor jack and a set of Mac Tools spring compressors I bought for $50, and the job took me about 8hrs! This was also the first time I ever changed out springs on struts. The main hold up was the piece of crap spring commpressors, if I had a mounted full size shop compressor it would have cut alot of time out! I know I could do the job again in 4-5 hrs top!

heh, dont go to a nationwide chain shop to get your work done, I went to munro muffler and asked for install prices for springs and the guy said it would take about 7 hours and cost a little over $500 and that didn't even include an alignment. I was shocked, to say the least. I then asked around the car club on campus here and found a locally owned autobody shop about 20 mins away and I called them up and asked if they would do the springs and how much and the guy was very nice and said it would run about $230, and that was for the install AND alignment. I told him about munro mufflers price and he laughed and said no no no. they got the whole thing done in about 6 hours and I paid $241 after taxes.

yeah, i went to the local go to shop for lifting and lowering anything and this is why they told me. but like i said, they were gona check it out... one of the guys in my club said he would do it for a case of beer, so i think were gona go that route anyway unless the shop comes back with $150ish...

These numbers all seem a bit ridiculous!! Me and my buddy Jeremy did the job in an hour and a half and we had zero suspension work experience before that. The only "cheater" tool we had was a lift, which believe it or not, didn't help as much as we thought.

they want $650 for install and alignment... $79 for alignment... ill get my people to install them and ill have them align it for me.

i did mine with the help of my little brother who was just there as a second set of hands in about 4-5 hours and i had never done any suspension work before.

hmm it took me and my friends only about 2.5 hours to install my springs with power tools, a jack, and a spring compressor only problem for us was trying to figure out where the third bolt was for the back struts

2 1/2 hours is about how long it should take....I wouldnt pay for no more than 4 hours.

i should mention for my story that the install time for the spings and allignment was when i dropped my car off til when they called me to pick it up, they were also working on other cars during that time but they gave me a flat upfront rate and didn't charge by the hour.

They probably did charge by the hour, but just gave the final cost. That's what they did for me. I asked what the cost was and they said $430. I was speechless and said "WHAT THE FUKK FOR???"( I know the guy well) and he said 7 hours of work at 60 bucks/hr. plus tax. Whether it takes all the time alotted or not, you're getting charged for it Jack,lol. Needless to say i didn't pay that insanely ridiculous amount and just decided to do it myself with a friend's help.

Every place I called quoted $500. I did my buddy's for $180. I've done 3 or 4, and every time takes between 5-6 hours.
However, the speed shop here did my buddies for about $250. I think that's a good price.

I checked at my Sears Auto today..........I work at Sears.......my tech said it will take maybe90 minutes........and that was with a coffee break...........and the alignment was like 30 minutes...........I have to supply the springs and the shop time is $65 an hour.........so I figure $200 for my springs and $130 in labor,maybe a bit more including the alignment.........figure $400 tops out the door............I wish I still had a garage...........a case of beer and 5 hours and it would be done.........condos suck.....

7 hours, a trip to walmart, midas, auto zone, and advance parts later my springs are on, worth every second of it. owe it all to Hawgz74, without him it wouldnt have happened... next time he and i could pull it off in 3-4 hours, if we go back to his friends shop, maybe 45 mins... 3 springs took about 6 hours, then the 4th took all of 10 minutes (with air tools)

its all about the pneumatic tools! thats the only reason I it done that fast!
