Default K&N replacement filter

Im thinking of replacing my stock filter with a K&N filter, I have an 07. Ive been reading on CAI and SR intakes and everyone is saying that there is not much of a HP gain and its all about looks and sound. I dont want my car to sound loud so will the filter replacement give me almost the same gain and improved gas millage?

If you check this thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=92108

You basically can lose 1 hp and gain 1 tq over stock. So ya... a CAI or SR will definitely be better than just the filter... but if you want it to be quiet, well, a CAI or SR would not always the way to go then.

Getting a cai won't make your engine that much louder, it'll just sound nicer. Plus, it doesn't sound any different when your driving normally, just under hard acceleration. The only thing is that the whistling sound will get a bit louder (you know which one i'm talking about), not by much though.

a cai, or sri sound is slightly louder....its just introducing a new sound.....compared to exhaust, intakes are almost neglible on sound....you will notice no power gains, but a slightly better throttle response.....they say you get a couple hp on the top end....but you will never notice that small of an increase....

I heard someone say that sr or cai will give you less low end power, is that true?

Unlikely. If you do, it would be extremely minimal...

Don't worry about it being loud, I worried about that and you really don;t notice it normally driving and when driving hard it not obnoxious at all. This is coming from someone who dosnt want an exaust because of the constant loud sound so trsut me there.

It seems that way to me, and a few others have said it does, so yeah.

A cai or sri is completely pointless on our cars. The stock airbox with a high flow filter with the HC screen removed is the optimal solution. A cai or sri will lose low end torque. Also the metal piping is highly susceptible to heat beneath the hood, whereas the stock tubing is not.

I wouldn't say that you lose low end... but maybe that that gains on the low end are minimal compared to the higher end, so it feels like you're losing some. Take a look at the dynos in one of the threads I posted above.

I assume he's talking about the carbon filter that is above the regular air filter. If you open your stock airbox... you'll see the regular filter sitting in the bottom... then flip over the part in your hand and look under the top. There should be another filter there... just another restriction of airflow.

Not sure... I never removed it when I had my OEM intake and now I have Injen, so I couldn't even go look.

There are six tabs around the HC screen and the outside trim...you just pop it off. You need to retain the outside trim to clamp down the box correctly.
