View Full Version : I'm disturbed Daihatsu Builds the XB QuOkinthebox 07-12-2007, 03:20 PM The only Japanese car company to fail in the USA. Hopefully Toyota oversees and checks quality control. QuOkinthebox 07-12-2007, 04:19 PM I was referring to this article if anyone is interested. http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtests/13335/2008-scion-xb-pricing-page6.html Big_Bird 07-12-2007, 04:21 PM I dont see a problem. They are fairly good cars. Yes they did fail here, but that's cause americans dont like the style they use to bring. But if it's under toyota, it's almost always going to be a quality product. tCTaco 07-12-2007, 04:23 PM Shoooo...bring the Copen to America and I will be all over it! Nothing wrong with Daihatsu, just at the time..America didnt care for their cars...brimg them here NOW and I bet they would sell a ____e load. uberspeed 07-12-2007, 04:28 PM Under Toyota's watchful eye, I'll buy one. Toyota internals and somebody elses styling outside, sure. I like the Daihatsu over there better than the xB2 over here. We always get shortchanged on vehicles. :( I'd really like the Toyota bB (I can't believe I like a Toyota product) http://toyota.jp/bb/grade/grade/gradeval/image/p01.jpg dudehitt 07-12-2007, 04:30 PM the Materia is not the 2008 xB! it is the 2008 bB. Google the thing and look at it. I'm not saying Daihatsu doesn't assemble the new xB, but the engine is a Toyota design for sure. What the rest of the platform came from I'm not really sure because I've read so many different things. If the Daihatsu build and design were not up to Toyota quality standards they wouldn't put their name on the Materia (bB). It's nothing to worry about. dudehitt 07-12-2007, 04:34 PM sorry, back again. I googled those Daihatsu's the author listed. WTF do any of those have to do with Scion? 2 concept cars, one a micro van and the other kind of boxy but NOT any version of the xB or bB. The third is kind of a retro mini cooper looking thing. The author's too lost for me to read the rest of the article. Maytag 07-12-2007, 06:44 PM I think this has been discussed in another thread. Daihatsu does not build the 2008 xB sent here to the US. RoundBox 07-15-2007, 08:10 PM Of course they failed, with bland styling like this at the time: http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/contributions/20000321/std_1989_Daihatsu_Charade_GTti_-LF-.jpg But there cars look better now, especially with Toyota on them with quality roXor_boXor 07-16-2007, 01:02 AM I think this has been discussed in another thread. Daihatsu does not build the 2008 xB sent here to the US. That is correct. This has been discussed and debunked already. The Mad Magazine Automotive Division strikes again. Let's make it clear. So far not one Scion product has been built (or is planned to be built) by Daihatsu. You need to modify the poll to allow a "this poll is pointless" option. And I agree with the others that since Toyota now owns 51% of Daihatsu, rest assured that the cars built there are of Toyota quality. Most of the folks around these parts say they would buy the gen2 bB if they would just bring it over. That car is built by Daihatsu. |
