can you take them out? and leave them open? or is it solid back there...
i think there are either 4 or 6 tabs that just hold those plastic pieces in place
take them off, and you have a giant hole
it won't go straight back to the engine area because the plastic fender skirt is to the back side of the bumper

I think they are only there to provide a rattle that your Scion dealer an easily fix and make you think they are heroes. They certainly wouldn't duct to the brakes as they point to the middle of the tire. Not to mention there is another part of the fender behind them. Seriously, do yours fit loose too? They have been on both of my xB's.

No rattles on mine either... they're just there to hide towing mounts if your car needs to get pulled from a ditch or anything, at least according to the dealer I talked with (big fat idiotic lie? i dunno, makes sense to me).

the ones we're referring to are near the tires. the other ones in the middle of the bumper are for towing

These things have been driving me nuts. I'd love for the aftermarket to come up with a vertical strip of LED's we can place there. Hyperwhite LED's for me please, they can't hurt and add a little more light to the front of the vehicle with very little power draw. Even if it's not light we can use as drivers it's more lights oncomers see so hopefully they don't jump in front of you and hang a left :P
