I have it on my inspiron 1705 and I hate it...it doesnt fully support bluetooth and has major connection problems for some reason, not to mention that 1 out of 5 times that i turn the laptop on it goes to a black screen right before the log in screen(laptop is 3 weeks old). I had Dell send me the full version of windows XP home edition the other day after b!tchin them out on the phone for hours on end and now i gotta try to find someone competent enough to erase vista and install XP now. I have a feeling this laptop is gonna get sent back to dell. Someone close to long island please help

In fairness it took MS two service packs to get XP done right. And at the time, there were still a huge number of people using 2000/98, so the pressure wasn't as intense. Now that Apple has their stuff together, Vista looks even worse.

In a year or two, it'll be a lot better once they get the kinks out. They have real competition now - nothing improves quality better than competition.

Why pay for testing and development when you can have the public do it for you at no cost! god...bill gates is my idol. :silly:

What power scheme do you have selected? I've had much better stability ( = normal) with " High Performance " rather than " Dell Suggested"

I have an alienware M9700 laptop with vista. It doesn't give me any major problems. It just ____es me off when it asks me all kinds of questions. Do you wanna run this. Yes. Are you sure? Yes. No, are you really sure?

Anybody seen that apple commercial??

i have the dell suggested setting on right now...even with my battery upgrade from dell the battery is still pretty weak as far as time usage. Ive never owned a laptop before in my life, is it a bad idea to leave it plugged in for long periods of time just like as with a cell phone battery? I usually will only leave it plugged in till I know the battery is at full charge, and I also usually will have the computer off while its charging. Any tips or suggestions that I should be aware of with laptop usage?

 hilarious and totally true. I love it when people try to argue it by saying "well I'm glad that it's trying to protect me, that's its job" no people...it sucks, just admit it.

My wife has always left her laptop plugged in as long as possible and didn't unplug it unless absolutely neccessary...me on the other hand, I always unplugged mine since it's a laptop and they're meant to be portable. Her battery has been going strong for over 2 years. I have been through 2 batteries...that should help with your question lol

one of my biggest issues with Vista right now and even Dell said theres no fix as of now is the bluetooth. I have a problem with the computer picking up the cell phone when I log on everytime(its setup to automatically pair up everytime the device is in range). It seems like when I first install it, it will pick it up but then once I shut down the computer and turn it back on the next day it cant sync up with the phone and then I hafta delete the setup and after numerous unsuccessful attempts on trying to re-pair the phone and laptop together it will eventually find the device and I hafta go through all the steps on re setting everything up. How annoying is that :tap:
sorry for the run on sentance lol :P

aright, so I guess its a good thing to leave it plugged in then? Good to know, anyone else can confirm this with firsthand experience? I woulda thought it was the opposite so you dont ruin the battery charge cycle by leaving it in plugged all the time and what not. Dam salteen, 19 yrs old and your married already? You should be on that MTV show engaged and underage lol. Good luck with your marriage if you really are wifed up and thanks for the help so far

I've had it running since october on my lappy.

It's decent, I think, for the average user. I'm a developer/programmer, and a lot of my applications were not compatible. I had to open the hood on a lot of things and f with a lot of config files to get everything running. I still can't connect coldfusion to a local access db, but i don't really care too much.

I'm not a Windows person (running xfce4 on debian) but I can understand the issue - XP was five years old by the time Vista came out - MS was probably feeling the heat on the back of their necks.

It's not open source, so (like Apple) they can only squash as many bugs as they find in house. It'd be pretty neat if there was a CVS/SVN for the next Windows... though the investors would probably riot.

But in seriousness, the best thing to happen to Apple was the XNU kernel. Where were they before OS X? Bugfixes that happen in KHTML go right into Safari and vice versa. Windows has a huge developer base that would do wonders for Windows, if they'd consider open source (see LiteStep, for instance). Apple is closed source but they have a bunch of different communities fixing problems for them - less work on their part.

Good luck with your marriage thanks man. I'm not full of ish either...I don't see how being married at 19 would give me any cool points lol
