Default Be Careful!

This is just a warning for anyone who is looking for information. I have occasionally searched this site for info on upgrades on my Release 4.0. I have come across tons of bad information and I have to say something about it. I can tell that most of it is coming from the misinformed youth of America. Just becareful of what you read and don't repeat anything without confirming it first. Lets stop the spread of this nonsense.

The pictures are great, part numbers and websites are helpful, but ignorant opinions are worthless.

Why don't you post wherever you found the bad info? It doesn't make much sense to start a new thread.

I just got dumber by reading posts about suspension. I don't have enough time to reply to all of them.

I agree with the misinformation but being aware of bad info is not a problem of this site alone - it's the problem with the internet.

when i find advice i may want to use, i check it against numerous sources and take my time on deciding whether or not to follow it. you can't really blindly use what you read without qualifying it first.

again, that's not just on here - that's all over the web.

It's like 5 people come to you and tell you to invest in a stock that's gonna go sky high tomorrow. only an ignorant mind will follow an ignorant and baseless claim.

you gotta do your own homework and come up with an opinion for yourself.

It's called Due diligence - I live by it.

As for information - yeah, this site has tons of GOOD info. but with the good comes the bad.

Who are you calling misinformed youth? There is much valuable information about the xB here on SL:
Brand of gas can affect break-in.
High octane is bad for the engine.
A strut bar improves handling.
Mods improve mpg.
Oil begins to lose its "lubricity" 30 days after it leaves the can.
The engine runs better after an oil change.
The OEM pulley is not a damper.
A light pulley increases the horsepower of the engine.
An xB can go 123 mph.
Unplug the engine computer so it can forget and learn (reset)
When changing octane or air filters, the computer needs to be reset.
Lowering the car reduces resistance and makes it faster.
To help engage reverse gear if the car is not stopped dead, blip the throttle.

this place isnt a text book.. trying to learn of a forum.. is your problem.. what this place for is showing what other problems people have run into.. and how you can learn by it.. it also gives you a good idea of things you can do to your car..

if you made the mistake of using these forums as guidelines, that is your own problem, and fault..

this site has helped with alot..

mods do improve mpg.,an internal combustion engine is an air pump , the more efficient the intake and exhaust chambers/systems are the more efficient the pump.

an xB can most certainly go over 120mph

the unplugging of the ecu will reset it and since we have a learning ecu it does "re-learn"

the rest of your snippets however are complete hooey

I frequent two forums - this one....and one for my semi-collectable oldish car. I've noticed (my observation only) a huge difference in the delivery of information. Key word "delivery"

Of course, the target market/demographic for the two cars is about as far apart as human's intake and exhaust ports.

But then, I tend to procede with caution - my motto, as a non-mechanic, Do No Harm!

Hey guys, I wrote this post as a warning, not to offend. There have been many great responses, but as I said it was a warning. Some people do not have the technical knowledge or experience to distinguish between the good and the bad. So, as I said, confirm your info.

There is a big difference between an opinion and an Ignorant Opinion. Give your opinions, but if you don't have any idea of what you are talking about, those are the opinions that we don't need.

Are you saying some SL opinion-givers don't know what they are talking about?
How can we recognize opinions that come from them?

I just don't understand why people are givin' this guy so much attention. He obviously tried to make some statement to give him attention while putting him on a high horse. It's completely obvious that forums will not give you true information 100% of the time. If you don't know that while reading forums, then you probably can't read to begin with. You aren't going to stop opinions; your own posts have plenty of "ignorant opinions" themselves.

I suggest people stop giving him the light of day and move on with their happy modding. That's what the "Scion xB 1st-Gen Owners Lounge" is about anyway.
