well i just cant believe so many people are trading in there gen 1's for the gen 2's. i cant imagine trading in my box for the 08. actually thats the reason i bought my gen1 is because i found out how hideous the new design was and wanted to get a box before they were used and had high milage. i guess i always thought people bought the xb becuase of its unique styling, great gas milage, ect.., so i think its odd so many traded in there boxes when the gen 2's are complete opposites of what the original was.

This subject will probably show best in the setting of the meets. Keep an eye on the blogs to see if the "two sides" meet in the middle. This is no different than the mod'ers and the drivers. Lots are really pimp'n their new xB's... do they fit into the "old head" sect? Personally... I was once known as a "head" and that was long ago and therefore it all depends on the definition of "old head"... But are you going to find me eye'n your wheels at the local meet? Doubt it... got other things to do.

Reference.

Excerpt:

"Everyone has their reasons. I had my mother get the original xB because I liked the styling (it grew on me) but more importantly it fit her needs well.
It was spacious, had all the basic power features we're accustomed to at a decent price and had good gas mileage. She doesn't need passing power as all her commuting is short distances, lots of stop lights and no highway miles.
I'm getting the xB2 because it has a better engine. Period. If you gave me some of the amenities of the xB2 in the xB1 and with the engine I'd take it in a heartbeat. I like the original xB and like how light it was and unapologetic in being a box on wheels. Since I can't have that, I do the next best thing and get the xB2. It fits my needs. I have a wife and a son. I carry things. I travel a lot of highway miles. I need the larger engine with, if not passing power, at least get-out-of-my-own-way power. In South Florida on I-95 and 595 you can have 18 wheelers barreling your way all the time, you better be able to get the heck out of their way. I have driven my mom's xB on the highway and it's just straining all the time.
To each their own. Buy it for your own reasons and enjoy in good health.
I just wish (some of) the Gen 1 folks would stop their whining and belly aching about how it shouldn't be called an xB blah blah. Get over it, it's here. If it doesn't suit you any longer, find something else to spend your money on.
Peace all...

I kinda feel that way. I know Im only 18 but I have been in the scion scene for almost 4 years now so I guess you can call me a vet. I love everyone, and I do like the xB2's, but we know my stance there. (wont get into it)

The scion scene is growing very rapidly but it seems to be 2 distinct sets of people. the really young kids, i guess my crowd, and the older crowd looking for a little youth revival. Obviously there are mroe, but those seem to be the biggest so far.

I'm 30, mistaken for early 20's all the time. I'm fit, energetic and young looking. I just came from customizing my cars for performance, I had to give it up, too many tickets! lol
I will now focus on customizing my vehicle(s) for comfort and convenience, perhaps much more aesthetically inclined than before (gasp!). I used to make my cars as per the sleeper formula, form over function, all go no show, except for rims and suspension drop you couldn't tell my vehicles had mods. I also want good gas mileage. Enter the xB2 for me, for aforementioned reasons.
By the way, it still looks boxy, just rounded edges, why not call it a box? You folks crack me up lmao

same reason i got my car i had a 240sx moded up and i would get tickest left and right. i got my box not only cause it was diffrent but it was slow and it was gonna stop me from getting tickets or even killing myself now the only reason why cops stop me is to look inside my car caus ethey think its cool lol

I hear ya man, especially in South Florida. My last one was a Jetta 1.8t, chipped, turboback exhaust, etc. quite a bit to get me at 240whp. It was fun! :D
I need to force myself to grow up some especially in this arena, tickets cost money and raise insurance rates. No good!

I have no beef with the xB2 owners. There is no way I would ever trade the first gen for one but that is me. The added power is not enough either because no one bought them for speed.
Just remember... The xB2 is NO BOX. It's not even a micro wagon for that matter. They supersized it then shaved the edges. Def. in the PT and HHR class now!

Like it or not there are upgrade and new xb2 owners coming into the community. In the 2nd gen forums I see nothing but people discussing mods and trying to push things to the next level. That says to me that they want to be apart of the this community. So why all the hate? I think its funny how quickly people will turn into elitists on this site.

There really isn't anything like the 1st gen xB and honestly I don't think there is anything like the 2nd gen xB. You can draw wild comparisons to any number of other vehicles that you don't like as much you want. There is still nothing like the xBs and thats why I love them both.

I fully agree that it shouldn't have been called the xB but it is the model Scion is really well known for. Why in the hell would they risk losing sales?

btw bb2NER nice profile pic

compared to first gen xB's the second gen xB's will hardly get modded.

almost all first gens have some sort of mods, i'd say about 50% are decently tricked out, with the new gen I could see maybe 30% getting tricked out

for the most part the new xB is just a car , not a tuner , just transportation.

I can't wait to see what mods people start doing to their new xb's. Maybe some of the new guys will come up with some fresh ideas?

WTF the 2nd gen hasn't even been out long enough for companies to release springs and you are drawing wild conclusions. I hope no one pays you for market analysis.

Ive been on both sides of the fence, and just recently i had the chance to drive a xB2.

Just after seeing the new box in Miami last Dec i was all set on trading my frist gen in for a 2nd gen, and i hadnt even had the chance of sitting in the drivers seat yet. Thankfully Scion kept pushing back the release date for the new xB.

I look at my box every day and cant imagine loosing it. Its a RS1 ... its paid for .. and its mine to do what i want. And, its actually square.

I do like the look of the new box, and the xD is cool too, but im so glad i kept my original. I test drove the xB2 in automatic .. and i honestly wasnt impressed. Maybe a 5 speed would have been more responsive. And of course the forced induction add-ons are a plenty .. but i do now understand the heritage that the frist xB has set here in the good ol USA.

As far as there being to different types or ages of 2nd gen owners ... i dont see a difference. As a member of Scion based car club since its birth i have seen all types and ages take interest in Scion and what they have to offer. The same holds true for the new generation Scions and their owners.

I say ... bring on the xP !

sure there is more power, but there is also more weight like something around 600 lbs.

Also has anyone else noticed that the xB2 has the same basic front end look as the tundra?
