Why Scion did not make a performance version of the xB. I was thinking they could've made a TRD version with all the upgrades and what not. Chevy has the SS models, Ford has the SVT models, why not a TRD xB. There was a custom dealer xB that I test drove that had springs, rims, exhaust, sport shifter, intake and interior lights all for $17,999, so a TRD model wouldn't be to awful much more than that.

That's a good question... My guess is because they figured that people would customize the xB how they wanted it themselves, thus making a "super" version a waste of money. The xB was meant for the customization crowd anyway, so that's my guess.

notice all Scion's are "base" models and they don't have different packages.

i'd have bought it . cause in cali any true hp mods will make u illegal , if they had a trd supercharged or turbocharged xB i'd have bought it in a heartbeat.

engine is too small for any real reliable performance... the 1nzfe was designed to be a fuel saver. sure you can do super charger and turbo, but honestly those upgrades won't be relaible through the whole leangth of your warrenty, not the way we drive! honjestly, no one buys a turbo engine to granny it around, we drive the $hit out of it!
although, i stand with hotbox05... if they had done a true perf package, with different engine/clutch/ i.h.e. supercharger, i would have been the first one on the list.

I just think that it would've been cool to have like the Release Series like that. I'm stuck with an automatic which, if you ask me, lacks a bit, so i'd rather have a box that handles good and has a little bit more pep when it shifts instead of taking off then bogging down.

yeah in japan they had a trd turbocharger , took it from slow to liveable.

Oh, I'm not saying I wouldn't have bought the trd version or what-not; I would probably have prefered to buy that one. I'm just saying from a business standpoint, it wasn't the most profitable idea.

if they did make a TRD version, people would probably go out and buy stuff for it anyway, to make it even better. That's what people do to their cars anyway. They always buy stuff for their cars. I bought my box stock and i said i was going to keep it stock....................................but i spent over $3000 on it on aftermarket stuff.....because i love her!!!! lol

yeah but a slightly better starting point at least on the power area , or at least a more capable mod responsive powerplant.
yeah i have close to 10 grand in my xB now and i'd still have bought a factory f/i version of it , for up to 3k more . and even if it was only a 30 hp rise over stock.

Maybe you guys and gals havent been around long enough to know ... but the xB was the bastard child of the 2 when they were slated to hit the US. Scion admittedly said that they had such an over stock of xAs after the first year they didnt know what to do with them. Scion wasnt prepared to sell such a successful car, why bother modding it with a TRD package.
The xB wasnt built for speed. The little engine that could was just that ... it could barely get out of its own way. Sure you can go forced induction and get better repsonse ... but that goes with almost any import/tuner.
Scion also did it right wit the RS edtions. Again, Scion wasnt sure how they would sell, so the RS1 they actually gave stuff away with the package. On the RS2 and above, they charged considerable more for less stuff.
Lets not forget that Scion wanted to make an affordable car to those who wanted Toyota Quality but didnt want to be associated with their Grandmothers Camry brand. Scion knew that there was plenty out there already from Japan to mod the little box that could ... and more would follow for the domestic market.
And lets not forget that IF Scion offered the TRD parts on the car .. then their list of add-ons would have grown smaller ... and damn near everyone financed Scion parts as part of their vehicle purchase. Its all about the money ... and who makes the most of it.

Never really wondered about it. Performance and xB don't really go together in the first place so, no. Did like all the RS pkgs except the last one tho.

A TRD Edition would be kind of cool, but that would take all the fun out of the Modding too...

I guess, but this way also you would know if it was done right and not risk yourself screwing it up.
