I live in a suburb of Washington DC. Lots of people have Mercedes... but my xB is not one of them.

Yet... I was at Lowes in Kentlands and there was a family that got out of their Range Rover and started staring at my car. They kept saying, "Wow, that must be the new Mercedes SUV... those things are so expensive."

Mercedes is now outsourcing their windows to Toyota. That's why it says Toyota at the bottom of my windows. :roll:

HAHAAHA, that's some funny ____ dude. :lol: But yeah, driving these cool cars, we seem to get that from time to time. 8)

I've been asked if it was a benz before, they thought it was the G-wagon. This girl in town keeps getting told that there's another tC in town...it's a Benz too, the 2 door hatch that's under $30k, they do sorta look alike from the side and back...I mean, if you're not a Scion fanatic.

As many compliments as you get, there will always be someone that hates it... it just comes with owning such a radically different car.

This old woman came up to me while I was waxing it last Sunday and she said "Oh, that's YOUR funny little car. It's so ugly compared to your old car, why did you get rid of it for that piece of crap? It's so... ugly."

Anyhow, I told her that I wanted something practical and more roomy... and this car had everything that I wanted. Then she proceeded to compare my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse to her old rusty 1990 Chevy Cavalier. "Oh, I loved your old car. It was so beautiful. Those 2 door cars are so sporty and cute. I wish people didn't vandalize my car... I loved that thing."

This is coming from a woman who drives a periwinkle colored Kia Rio. Maybe they vandalized her car because she was a... @#$%!.

Anyways, I parked my Eclipse in front of the house today so that she'd remember that I own both.

btw- I hated it when the wife and I got our xb and people would always say they saw the xb's everywhere and got sick of looking at them. Hell, we were lucky to see one a week
(we responded that it was odd that people saw the xb everywhere when az dealers just started to get them on the lots two months prior.)

A cop that stopped me recently said he thought I was driving a Mercedes. He was shocked when I told him how little I paid for it.

Don't do it...Element owners do that. I used to hang on an Element forum a few years ago when I was considering one.

Eh, I would never buy a car just because it was unique... a Skyline GT-R would be pretty unique on U.S. shores, but owning one would be a nightmare. Anyhow, most people don't know anything about cars, so why would they know anything about yours?

My friend bought a Jaguar S-Type 4.0 last year and he didn't know whether it was FWD or RWD, how much power it had, what kind of engine was in it or if it was a manual transmission or not. I even had to explain to him that even though there was a shifter that said "PRND", it wasn't a manual. Manual transmissions have 3 pedals. All he knew was that it had leather, automatic climate control, and it was the most expensive, so it had to be the best. :roll:

I just made that post because it's funny when people think that you're driving a G-class. Maybe I will put on Mercedes Emblems and some custom AMG wheels. 8)

One of the many reasons I bought my xA because you don't see many on the road. . . I thought about a Corolla or Matrix, but for me they are too generic.

So Bondo you are wrong. We like the "big wheels" dont know about you but the marketing is for the "kiddies". Im one of the "kiddies" and im not spending my daddys or mommys money sorry. Yeah we were having our roof worked on a few weeks back.... and my father was up on the roof inspecting the work..... when here a come roaring up the driveway w/ the system goin....

The worker looks up and from what my dad said was... "damn!"

As i get out and work my way into the house, my father stops me and asks for me to come up on the roof to check something out..., so as i climb up the worker says "I gotta ask, where the F*** do you work? How someone at your age affording a MERCEDES?"

So i told him... "Drug money... lots and lots of drug money" haha that even turned my fathers head there for a second!

I'm now wondering.... would i betrading my kind by badging it w/ the mercedes emblem? haha j/k

I have a Mercedes Benz hood ornament and trunk star on my debadged xB. A couple of weeks ago on a beautiful night. Everyone was driving with windows open. I'm in the right lane heading south on Broad St., Philadelphia, and this white car in the left lane is matching my speed. We get to a stop light that turns green. I have a car stopped in front of me so I can't go yet. The white car with two bros. in it doesn't go either, but there's no one in front of them. I say to my passenger: "I wonder why they're stopping for a green light.
The next block they slow down and pull behind me. Then they pull up next to me and slightly ahead; then right next to me. They ask me what kind of car it is. I tell them it's a Scion xB. They ask me if Mercedes makes it, because their friend got one, but they didn't know it was a Benz.
I told them that I was just having fun. I said: "This is my $15,000 Benz."
They liked this and said it was a cool idea. They were going to tell their friend he should do this.
About this time the people trapped behind us as we were driving and having a conversation started honking.
That was the first time I've had a pleasant conversation with another driver while moving down Broad St.

I live in Memphis (moved here, not raised here), one of the most backward and undereducated cities in the country---------so one day I'm just out for an evening drive down the main drag (poplar ave) and here I am sitting at a stoplight listening to a mix by Donald Glaude, when I hear.........

"Yo"
I turn off the radio so I can hear him, "What's up?"
"Hey man, Is that one of thos Skee-kons things?"
"Na man, Its a Mazda"

keep in mind I was driving my MP5 which looks nothing like any of the scions

IT happened to me.i went to a hot rod show. and some biker chik asked me if it was a MErcedes..since this was the first time and didnt know that a merceded resembled the xb i said " i wish it was"..biker chik liked it then she took off with her biker friends..it felt good to own a mercedes for that night.

It will be a sad day when you get carjacked for your Mercedez xB!!! 8)

i even had people curse me out and say my car is the ugliest thing on earth in front of my face with my friends around. that sort of got me but then i looked @ the car she was driving and i wasn't impressed either. early 90's Golf.

i've been asked if it was a nissan, a skee-on, a small element, a hybrid, "that thing must get horrible gas mileage" , then i tell them what it cost with the options i got in it and where to get them and they shut up. but i don't think that the people i talked too were the least bit intristed in buying a square toyota. it was either this or stick with nothing so i wen't with a trend setter scion corp. xB model in Black Cherry Pearl with a five speed manual gear box

never got mistaken for a mercedes but get asked "that thing gets good mpg right?" "hybird?" "That boxcar is pimpin!" So many things I dont even remember. The best is the people that when you pull up the mouths drop. Love it unless im rushing!!!
