View Full Version : tc's with HID using stock reflector scion_tC 07-24-2007, 03:45 AM Those with a tc and using the stock reflector how do u find your glare? Do you get people flashing you due to glare at all? 2_much_tc 07-24-2007, 03:52 AM my glare isnt bad at all. i dont have anyone flashing me about the lights being too bright. joshuabowman 07-24-2007, 03:54 AM I have had my TC for about 3 weeks now and the HID's have been in for about 2 weeks and I've been flashed 1 time so far. I have the 8000K kit in my car and my wife has the 5000K Kit in her TC. I have yet to be flashed in her car so maybe it's just the blue in mine and they liked them. LOL! emptystreets130 07-24-2007, 04:21 AM I don't really have an issue with the glare on my tc. Here in the Dallas area, people don't care. They drive around with their high beams. The newer Maximas with their oem hid glares like crazy. I think Nissan has a huge problem with that. GarmaZed 07-24-2007, 04:38 AM Someone over at ClubSciontC.com had put HID's in their tC's stock headlamps (reflectors and all), they had pictures up. Let me see if I can get the post up here in a second. (I'll repost in about a minute) GarmaZed 07-24-2007, 04:42 AM [DING] Back already! K, here's the pics and the original post. CUTOFF http://www.clubsciontc.com/media/profile_pics/medium/2275.jpg DRIVING http://www.clubsciontc.com/media/profile_pics/medium/2276.jpg I decided to post this review up because alot of people are afraid to put true HID in the stock housing because of the stray light issues on alot of cars or whatever the reason may be. I had some concerns as well, but decided to try it out when I noticed they had kits all over ebay for around $100 - $150. I figured I could sell them and not loose much money if any at all if it didnt work out to my liking. Product: xentec HID kit Specs: 5000k Pure white bulbs Price: $129 Shipped Difficulty: 1 Time: 15 minutes Basically the kit is great so far. Being a "cheap" kit, I dont know how long it will last, but the parts seemed to be pretty high quality to me. The 5000k is supposed to be pure white, but I would say its a little bit more bluish than the OEM kits on other cars. I believe those use 4300k bulbs anyways. Light output is definately the 3x more that they claim. The only thing is that it seems like its not projecting the light as far as before, but I think it could just be that its so much brighter up close you dont notice the far out light as much as before. In my opinion, standing 50-60 feet away from the car, it is no more blinding (for oncoming traffic)than the standard bulbs. The light pattern is not the same as before, but I wouldnt consider it bad. I was out with them for about an hour tonight and not one car flashed me and the 1 cop didnt have anything to say either. Overall im very pleased so far. He says they aren't that bad in stock housing and are comparable to the stock lighting of the tC. I'll let the users be the judge though. scion_tC 07-24-2007, 04:53 AM ^^ thanks for the help and pics ScionTcZ 07-24-2007, 05:00 AM nice pics tcdrummer 07-24-2007, 05:43 AM i have 8000K kit, no problems here. haha, the only comments i get are great! like when i've been driving all night, and then people go get in there cars, and they're like, woah, my headlights DO suck... wow, yellow and grosse. and im just like, yup... thanks : ) SSQ 07-24-2007, 06:00 AM Yeah, the glare isn't bad, but it's pointless now that I look at it because the light really doesn't go further, so it's not like you see any better. If you are worried about glare, get D2R bulbs, they do help a lot. ppiech2 07-24-2007, 06:06 AM no glare issues either, I've had my 6000Ks for about 5 months and haven't been flashed once. ScionTcZ 07-24-2007, 06:08 AM I got 8k before about 4 months have been flashed once , because I adjust light little bit high then stock BigMURR 07-24-2007, 12:11 PM I was getting flashed a bunch here and my lady was sick of seeing my lights in her mirror, so bluebat sent me these: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid004.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid005.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid011.jpg and the glare: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid020.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid019.jpg the glare is a lot better than stock, my guess is about 80% reduction of glare that the oncoming traffic actually see. GarmaZed 07-24-2007, 12:28 PM I was getting flashed a bunch here and my lady was sick of seeing my lights in her mirror, so bluebat sent me these: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid004.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid005.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid011.jpg and the glare: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid020.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/bigmurr311/Eyelid019.jpg the glare is a lot better than stock, my guess is about 80% reduction of glare that the oncoming traffic actually see. I had been considering getting these for a LONG time now, but I hadn't seen the cutoff until now. Could you get us a picture of your high beams on? Cutoff and all? Because if that checks out, too... ...where's my wallet? :) BigMURR 07-24-2007, 12:40 PM I dont have any pics of the high beams on but the work perfectly fine suprisingly enough. Keeshwah 07-24-2007, 01:16 PM I get flashed a lot, usually when cresting a hill but then it doesn't matter if I have projectors or not. I'm running 8k HIDs. The glare multiplies exponentially as the car's slope increases in relation to the person looking at it. This wouldn't happen w/ projectors. DuMa 07-24-2007, 04:02 PM you people should be banned from the road. 2_much_tc 07-24-2007, 04:20 PM you people should be banned from the road. hater in the house! BigMURR 07-24-2007, 04:53 PM you people should be banned from the road. if you are refering to the fact that we have increased glare then maybe all lifted and generally large trucks should be banned too. how about other cars whose headlights aren't real good and focusing silverstar bulbs. the way I see it if people's are causing tons glare hid or not worse than ours, then why can't I have HID and do it in a much more reasonable way? Daskid 07-24-2007, 05:02 PM I haven't been flashed yet. DuMa 07-24-2007, 05:26 PM you people should be banned from the road. if you are refering to the fact that we have increased glare then maybe all lifted and generally large trucks should be banned too. how about other cars whose headlights aren't real good and focusing silverstar bulbs. the way I see it if people's are causing tons glare hid or not worse than ours, then why can't I have HID and do it in a much more reasonable way? so your excuse is 'if you cant beat em, join em' ? great philosophy on life you got there. rosedaleny806 07-24-2007, 05:32 PM i have the 12k and never been flashed or anything BigMURR 07-24-2007, 05:40 PM you people should be banned from the road. if you are refering to the fact that we have increased glare then maybe all lifted and generally large trucks should be banned too. how about other cars whose headlights aren't real good and focusing silverstar bulbs. the way I see it if people's are causing tons glare hid or not worse than ours, then why can't I have HID and do it in a much more reasonable way? so your excuse is 'if you cant beat em, join em' ? great philosophy on life you got there. well actually if I were to join them I would have to point my headlights up and not even bother with the eyelids I have on them now. So no not really, but atleast I recognize it as a problem and I am finding ways to fix it. SSQ 07-24-2007, 06:00 PM Weird thing is, the solution exist, the D2R bulbs, but just that nobody sells them. It's just.... weird! Think this should be something all aftermarket HID kits should have. But yeah, those trucks are just plain annoying. I actually tried to adjust my mirrors to reflect the lights back at them, but I don't know how well it works. ADRdesignCo 07-24-2007, 06:08 PM i havent been flashed with operatics 6k HID kit. im also lowered on Htechs. actually when i first installed them i had to raise my driver side because it wasnt focused on a line. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/adrdesignco/IMG_1799.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/adrdesignco/IMG_1794.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/adrdesignco/IMG_1797.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/adrdesignco/IMG_1792.jpg jzibit17 07-24-2007, 06:21 PM mmmm im not really feelin them but i think ill give them a try ill post some pic if i decide to get them and see for myself how much glare they eliminate.... esisso 07-24-2007, 06:28 PM i have projectors...but i've seen plenty tcs in south florida with all kinds of HIDs....even the purple ones, and none have blinded me being in front or behind me...... get HIDs but try to stay off the extreme colors to prevent trouble with cops GarmaZed 07-25-2007, 01:14 AM you people should be banned from the road. if you are refering to the fact that we have increased glare then maybe all lifted and generally large trucks should be banned too. how about other cars whose headlights aren't real good and focusing silverstar bulbs. the way I see it if people's are causing tons glare hid or not worse than ours, then why can't I have HID and do it in a much more reasonable way? so your excuse is 'if you cant beat em, join em' ? great philosophy on life you got there. well actually if I were to join them I would have to point my headlights up and not even bother with the eyelids I have on them now. If people aren't flashing you, that doesn't necessarily mean your lights are okay or anything. Remember kids, all it takes is just one accident, one mistake. One blinded driver in the opposite lane, but by that point in time, it's too late to change. ADRdesignCo 07-25-2007, 05:46 AM and to add on.. my bro gets flashed and he is using silverstars not even HIDs. WiLz 07-25-2007, 08:15 AM Weird thing is, the solution exist, the D2R bulbs, but just that nobody sells them. It's just.... weird! Think this should be something all aftermarket HID kits should have. D2R bulbs are a bulb type/size...like 9006 or H3, so they will not just fit in any headlight housing. The reason you don't see D2R or D2S in aftermarket kits is because people who have D2R or D2S headlight housings always already have HIDs, so you will only see replacement bulbs, not whole kits, because they can use their stock ballasts if they want to upgrade. There are no cars that come with D2R or D2S headlight housings that do not already have HIDs in them. Hence why there are no aftermarket kits for D2R. SSQ 07-25-2007, 01:55 PM well, there are the rebased D2R bulbs. I am currently using a rebased D2R bulb in mine. In the past, some kits does come with the anti-glare thingy on them, not anymore. I am not refering to the socket design, but rather, the bulb itself. There ARE kits with rebased D2R bulbs and Toyota/Denso ballasts, I am using one. boibleu22 07-25-2007, 07:49 PM same, never been flashed. and what about older model luxury cars like Lexus/Mercedes/acura that had HIDS before the projectors became a big hit? no one complained about those... i see no difference in the glare from my HIDS (13k i think) than from stock bulbs.. paul34 07-25-2007, 11:05 PM Before the popularity of projectors, they used to make housings that were specifically designed for HID applications We have halogens from the factory, though, so our reflectors are obviously meant for halogen bubls. If you want more light, try an HIR bulb - its just a more advanced halogen bulb. SSQ 07-26-2007, 01:08 AM yeah, HIR bulbs looks pretty convincing. Too bad I can't find the ones that are already based to 9006 already. I remember reading somewhere that they do carry it, but I can't find them. PlayinWithFire 07-26-2007, 03:11 AM and to add on.. my bro gets flashed and he is using silverstars not even HIDs. the difference being that silverstars are legal and HIDs still arn't i cant say anything since my retro is mega illegal... but just dont get them if u live in CT, MA, NY, NJ. PA. ME etc. so you don't ____ me off... cause when i flash my brights you will go blind. |
