Often times when I shift (seems more prone just after the car has been started) I get a low/deep rumble/buzzing noise right after the shift is complete. It's about a second after I re-engage the clutch bzzzzZZZZZzzzzz... Seems as if it's coming from the front right of the car.

What is this? Any ideas? Should I be afraid?.... Very afraid?.... Or is it just nothing ;)

is this your first manual transmission? are you giving it enough gas? sounds like you're bogging. *shrug*

No, my first car was a manual. I never really had anyone show me how to drive one though. It's not about to stall if that's what you're saying. It doesn't shake or anything. :-/

An update: It only happens in third gear, and when I'm very slowly accelerating. I typically shift at 3krpm from second into third when I'm going that slow.

Try shifting at 3500 or 4000rpm, see if it still happens.

What's actually making the noise and why? If you don't mind taking the time of course :) I'm a car n00b. Have some books arriving to help educate me, but they've not arrived yet.

I don't know *shrug* I'm kinda clueless on the situation. I don't know a tC and haven't heard the sound. The higher the rpm when you shift, the smoother the shift should be...

That made it stop :-/ I'm wondering what it is now. Don't see why I can't shift at 3k when I'm not trying to go anywhere in a hurry :(

You mentioned that it mostly happens when you just start the car. . . in the manual it tells you flat out to not let the engine sit at low revs or use high gears at low speeds(same thing) . . especially when accelerating. You shouldn't be racing the engine either, but you should shift at 3500 or 4000. I think 3000 is a bit low for a 4cyl car.

It's just as bad as letting your car idle for awhile after start up. . . I believe it's in the manual as well, but I'm not sure about that. You want everything to heat up in a nice and uniform fashion, in addition to getting all the fluids to move around.

If you shift at 3000 rpm fast and smoothly, you shouldn't bog...Practice makes perfect!

I find that the manual does not like to be rushed when cold. . . but you make a good point
