Default FAKE brake cooling duct openings

The non-functional duct openings are stupid, and not an honest styling cue. These are the vertical BLACK panels at either end of front bumper.

Hope someone (Toyota?) will manufacture modification kit to turn '08 xB'sFAKE front brake-cooling ducts into FUNCTIONAL ducts. All it would need is removal of fake blanking panels, then add ducts to new fender-liner holes pointing at brake disks.

This mod might even improve aerodynamics?

On my old '86 VW GTI 8v, VW offered a replacement chin spoiler from '87 16v. After I nstalled the new spoiler, VW sold me their plastic ducts that cut into the fender liners.

Mustang is still the king of nonfunctional vents. The rear brake cooler vents, hood scoops are blocked by solid plastic with "grill" patterns.

This is a stupid trend of several automanufacturers. Why just make the car look areodynamic, make it functional

Nissan 350Z also has them in front, very similar to xB2.

In the scion print collateral the 5 axis xb has them flipped on their side with a small fog light in 'em (I've yet to see this on anyone elses xb though?!?), that looks acceptably cool.... other's have talked about trying to mod them for LEDs. Break ducts would be alright, but I think, being that its an xb, it'd be best used for style points.

Don't forget all the stupid "port holes" that everyone and they're grandma are putting on they're car. There is something totally baller about seeing an Impala rolling around on 22's with 4 adhesive port holes on each side.

Ah come on, the stick-on port holes (do they believe they are really fooling anyone?) add at least 5 HP

I swear to god, you put anything in the Pep Boys "cheap, crappy, modify your car" aisle and someone will buy it. Actually from what I've seen a lot of people buy the stupid stuff from that aisle.

Everyone knows that the APC stickers are teh best. They add like 50 horsepower and let everyone know not to mess with you and you're l337 driving skillz.

I wouldn't mind using those covers as a mount for some fogs. Could work nicely. Especially if you get the small one's like they have on Bimmers.

I'm a l337 hax0r yo!

Any way, back on topic, I'm just waiting for after SEMA there should be a lot of good stuff running around. I certainly hope so anyway. Otherwise I might look into doing something myself, I absolutely HATE those plastic pieces.

Just pull the grill out of them if you don't like them that much. I on the other hand like them, but that's my opinion.

Unless you're giving your xB hell at the track, having plumbing to have brake cooling really wouldn't be worth the cost and effort. True, they could be used for that very purpose, but I don't think it would really make much difference besides being asthetically (sp?) pleasing.

One functional option that would help. If you had a CAI and the filter was right there, the drivers side could be opened up to allow air to hit right on it. That would still leave the passenger side solid/pointless.

In the end though, I agree fake grills are the suck.

When I installed my factory fog light kit, the front bumper had to be removed(no big deal, as long as you are careful) the plastic vents can pop out easily and be converted with a dremil tool to allow airflow, but fog lights mount under the bumper in the center lower grill, on each side, you have to mod the plastic insert to make these fit, more work but look good
