buying a brand new 06' xB
am I crazy for buying a brand new 2006 xB still?
They aren't offering any crazy discounts because of the "no haggle" pricing.
I think there is a $500 gift card that you get with it. and I talked them up $450 on my trade in, for buying some old stock. But still no budge on the $15,300 AT price.
I know a lot of people like the 1st gen better, I'm just afraid depreciation will hit a lot faster. I guess that doesn't really matter, if I plan on keeping the car for 5+ years anyways.
Anything else I should ask about before going through with everything? I want them to change the fluids if it's been sitting in storage for the past 6+ months.
Thanks

INteresting they still have an 06.
I highly doubt they will change out the fluids....you may get a chuckle from them.
It's up to you, I am curious how in the world they still have one.
The gift card is cool but honestly in regards to depreciation, take into consideration that you will lose approx 1500 per year (3000 in this case) and now there is a body style change so hit it for another 1000-2000.
More than likely if you were to buy that then go trade it right away you would lose around 4-5000 not including taxes.
All in all, the only thing that matters is what you really want.

I was suprised they had one too. I went to the used car lot, and drove a used xB manual they were asking 16.5k, then they called their associated new car dealership, and they said they still had a brand new AT one for 15.3k.
I guess the depriciation will force me to keep the car for a long time. but that's the plan anyways.

LOL
By the way! That dealer is paying lot taxes on that xb the entire timeit sits there. Use that as a negotiating tool!
ur not crazy at all. many people on this site didnt like the look of the re-designed 2008 xB so they went and bought an "older" model - meaning a brand new 2006 or a 2006 with low low miles. i dont think ur crazy at all for doing it - many people have done that already.
get the 06 box and have a blast! ;]

This is the first time i heard someone debate about getting a brand new first gen when the new body styles have been out! i thought all the first gens were gone! i'd be all over it!
Don't worry about the depreciation, especially if you hold on to the car for 3 or more years. Barely used XB's tend to be listed by dealers for more than new ones, and there is still pretty strong demand for the old body style. I should know, as I spent a couple weeks looking before I found mine. I spoke to a few dealers who had other people phone them recently asking for old style XB's.
On the used side, pretty much anything I found at a dealership that was new, or near new and listed for under the original sales price was sold. I saw lots of $12- $13k listings for 05's and 04's with 30-40k miles on them, and lots of $16-$17k listings for very low mileage 06's. After wading through lots of overpriced used cars, and sold vehicles, I eventually stumbled upon a new RS4, and snapped it up. I got a couple hundred knocked off to help pay for my transport costs, but pretty much paid full retail, and was happy to do so.
I think the 08's and 06's are different enough cars that there has been very little effect in demand for the old body style with the model change. It's not like they kept the same design, and added a more powerful engine with the same fuel economy.
I personally chose the 06 because I felt it was a better city car, and better for me. The 08 seems more like a "suburb car": better able to handle the freeways, and more refined for longer trips. For me it's just bigger, heavier, thirstier and less interesting. More of a camry and less of a go-kart, I guess.
If you prefer the old body style, then I think you should buy the new one before someone else does. If you can get a discount, great. If not, then ,even at retail, it's probably as good a deal as you will find.

for me, i've had my box now for like 19 months and i am at about 16,600 miles on it. after i saw the redesigned box, i wanted to buy another brand new 2006 xB and use it as a "spare" - in case anything bad happened to my current box! lol! but since i dont use my car ENOUGH to get another car, i skipped this idea altho i still want another box =/
i drive only on the weekends - typically friday - sunday for short roadtrips... so 16k miles for only weekend trips is something! =P

thanks guys,
I think i was just freaking out because I had just ordered it, and thought I might have buyer's remorse in a few days.
I guess i should consider myself lucky to find a brand new one. I'm kind of skeptical as to why they still have one. They are pretty popular here in Hawaii, so I just assumed they'd be sold out by now.
it'll be my first new car.........actually my first car ever that wasn't at least 10+ years old and over 100k miles (5 cars), so i'm excited.

put my mind at ease about passing on the new one.
I haven't taken delivery yet, so I can only hope that everything goes smoothly.
