View Full Version : xA exhaust options...
xAlex 10-08-2004, 01:22 AM ... are very limited. figured this out after extensive internet research. does anyone know of any manufacturers that make catback exhausts for the xA? and any1 know of any good sites, everywhere i look, its "xB catback xB!!" its frustrating :x
PandaIst 10-08-2004, 01:40 AM Try www.optionsauto.com. Search "scion xA"
From my knowledge, most all exhausts out there for our xA is axle back. They may be a few catbacks out now, but i'm not real sure.
Hope this helps.
well if you want a catback system just goto a local muffler shop that bends there own pipes
and there you have it
bensonwrx 10-08-2004, 04:59 AM If you don't mind between mendrel or crush bent pipes then custom made at your local exhaust store is not too bad at all. It's certainly cheaper so you can save up for some other mods :) Good luck!
xAlex 10-08-2004, 05:14 PM custom is cheaper? thats the first time i've ever heard that, i'll guess i'll start searching, thanks!
maybe i'll just buy the magnaflow catback for the xB and tell 'em to fit it on my xA :D
Carlanga 10-08-2004, 05:17 PM I don't know why but, nobody really cares about our xA's.
chucksu 10-08-2004, 05:26 PM That is true, no one cares. Gabe has a Cat Back. I think most companys, do not take the time to build a cat back. These little cars will not make much more power to off set the cost, compared to a free flow muffler.

Well, the word *custom* can be tricky. What I said was that if you are going to your local shop, then they can use their in-stock pipes to custom made one for you. Those pipes will be crush bent. The cost compared to mendrel bent cat/axle/turbo back exhausts yield a big difference, and so the cost is lower. In addition, many exhaust companies design their exhausts, prototype, and then test them to prove gain, before releasing the final product, and hence the higher cost.
My friend's Impreza had a custom 3" pipes made between his HKS downpipe and Borla exhaust, and I think the whole section cost him less than 100 bucks with tax.
SCI_FIRE 10-09-2004, 06:27 AM I went to a local muffler shop that also does work on a lot of custom cars and race cars. They custom-made a 2.25" catback exhaust for my XA for under $200. I kept the TRD Sport exhaust muffler, and put a new tip on it. It was no biggie for them... they do that kind of thing every day. Was fast, too. They made it while I waited.
Would love to have it dyno-tested to see the difference it has made. I have noticed a big increase in power when it comes to getting on the freeway, when passing, and when going uphill. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Note - Gabe (Stylus) said do not go over 2.25" or you could have a loss of power.
when i had my other car, they let me watch 'em bend the pipes and install it (duel exhust) took maybe 30 minutes or so
How about a precisionmuffler.com axle back for the xA.

xAlex 10-18-2004, 02:50 AM nooo... how about a magnaflow catback? thats what i'd really like. why are our xA's so overlooked?

I hate to bring this up, but marketing research shows that the xA is not a big buy for aftermarket exhaust systems. So thats why there isn;t any catback systems available. Magnaflow was gonna make one, but I don;t know what happend. :( Sorry to say this to yea. I would have them for sale in a second, but if you really want a catback, you can stop by the Scion Central and I can hook you up with a good deal. scionlife member "Subcode" drove up from Socal to have on done up by me for his xA. :D Subcode was car of the month this year too. :D
hotbox05 10-18-2004, 09:03 AM hey gabe what size pipes do you normally run? i think i shouldda gone with 2.25 but i was a dumbass and ran all 2 inch.

yeah I use 2.25 pipe on all my systems for the scions. :D Just a better way to go. :D
xAlex 10-18-2004, 04:59 PM i'd love to drive up there... but i think it's a few t housand miles from where i am. i'm in ny (long island), unless you got any friends in ny that can hook me up
squirrel 10-18-2004, 05:03 PM Since our engines are only 1.5 liters, 2 1/4 inch exhaust piping is best unless you plan on some sort of forced induction. You also have to see how the bends are made. If you go to a catback sytem and the shop does crush bending, then you are pretty much defeating the purpose of the system. You want the exhasut to flow just as freely going out, as you want the air going into the intake. That's why you don't see crush bending on most high end intakes. And most sucessful intakes do not have alot of bending.

thanks gabe....still looking forward to the full hotchkiss.....probably in December...
another visit fro the Subcode? Sweet  Hope you can stay for the weekend at least so we can get some meets together in your honor, I know we had a blast last time. :D
drivenapollo 11-08-2004, 01:38 AM I know for my last car i had custom cat back put on my car, and it only cost me 100 bucks. not bad considering the TRD muffler set me back more than that.
showpaojoe 11-08-2004, 02:49 AM 2.25" catback with a BIG resonator...like 21"
or
2" catback with no resonator for a louder exhaust and no power loss
Back_In_Black_xA 11-08-2004, 05:26 AM The main reason there are hardly any exhaust for the xA is because the cat converter is built into the stock exhaust, there are no flanges or anything, its welded in. So if you get a cat back it has to have some kind of means for a cat converter or else your car will be illegal and won't be passing any smog tests anytime soon.
Prettym1k3 11-08-2004, 07:30 PM I can't remember the website, but for like $559 I think JIC magic makes a full catback.
Looks nice and angled too.
xAlex 11-08-2004, 11:38 PM what if i buy the magnaflow catalytic converter (2.25") with a tanabe axle back exhaust... am i gonna have to do any welding ya think?
showpaojoe 11-09-2004, 06:27 AM dude, that's more welding than anyone elses suggestion
to take the catback off you have to cut in 2 places...the axle back off and then then cat-axle section.
if you buy your own cat then you will need 3 welds...2 to put the catalytic converter on, and 1 to attach the axleback to the straight pipe you will have to get made.
