View Full Version : Roof rack for bikes and ski fot the xa Laura 10-09-2004, 07:01 AM Does any one know if they make a roof rack for the Xa? xA_RS_ChickLA 10-09-2004, 07:19 AM i recall seeing an xA with a rack on it. I believe it was a yakima rack... check the scionstore online... mikochu 10-09-2004, 07:33 AM The xA in Japan, called the Ist, has a Thule rack as an option. In the US, we have a Yakima rack. It goes for about 200 bucks. Check www.yakima.com and build your own yakima kit. Print it out and head to your local bike shop and see if they can strike you a deal. I know you need to buy Q-Towers...but I can't remember the clips... xAlex 10-11-2004, 03:51 AM what're u puttin on the rack? if its for bikes, get the thule 965, thats what i got and it 'fits like a glove' on my xA and doesnt ruin the paint or scratch anything. chucksu 10-11-2004, 03:55 AM what're u puttin on the rack? if its for bikes, get the thule 965, thats what i got and it 'fits like a glove' on my xA and doesnt ruin the paint or scratch anything. The topic title should say it all... Bikes & Skis. jwinters78 12-29-2004, 01:29 AM what're u puttin on the rack? if its for bikes, get the thule 965, thats what i got and it 'fits like a glove' on my xA and doesnt ruin the paint or scratch anything. To resurrect an old topic (NOW i'm finally in the market for one, myself) -- I was interested in the Roof-mount style, but i'm open to this hatch loading one. I have a rear spoiler on my car though... can you tell from your experience if it could still work on my xA? I can check at the local bike shop, but i thought i'd check w/ someone who has used one first. thanks for you input. ~jonathan xAlex 12-29-2004, 02:44 AM for a hatch mount with a spoiler, thats gonna be really tough for the thule 969. i think that may be tough for any hatch mount rack, you may as well research a good roof rack. the angle is wierd enough w/o the spoiler on my xA... jwinters78 12-29-2004, 03:02 AM hmm... ok.. thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to find a dealer to try it on my vehicle before I purchase. I just got my $50 gift card from scion today, too.... maybe i'll just get the rack from my scion dealer.... roof racks are an official scion 'accessory'. We'll see... thanks again for your post. ~jonathan RPMxB 12-29-2004, 03:21 AM Does any one know if they make a roof rack for the Xa? Hope this helps. :D RPM XaRS0888 12-29-2004, 08:22 PM for a hatch mount with a spoiler, thats gonna be really tough for the thule 969. i think that may be tough for any hatch mount rack, you may as well research a good roof rack. the angle is wierd enough w/o the spoiler on my xA... do you have a pic? xAlex 12-29-2004, 10:31 PM man... that would require me to actually put the rack on my car, take a picture, and post it ie; it would require effort! and i'm not even goin mountain biking any time soon... ok gimme a while XaRS0888 01-01-2005, 03:00 AM i thought you had this thing on your roof...........you must took it of for the winter huh. xAlex 01-01-2005, 03:19 PM oh no no, i had this on my hatch/back of the car XaRS0888 01-01-2005, 07:25 PM i see, how's the weather on LI btw? xAlex 01-02-2005, 12:01 AM beautiful for winter weather actually... 60 degrees and sunny. was actually gonna put the rack on my car and go mntn biking but nye kinda knocked the wind outta me  mattssi 07-23-2005, 10:30 PM I cant' figure out if I have to order 2 things or 1? A roof rack and a bike rack? or does the roof rack work as a bike rack? What about something way cheaper like this: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/bike-rack/Scion/xA/1AXRA00039/272589 xAlex 07-24-2005, 03:26 AM as long as you just plan on carting bikes around, yea, thats all you need. now if you want to start carting skis and kayaks around, then look into getting a roofrack Scionpilot 07-29-2005, 01:42 AM http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/scionpilot/random2133.jpg Here is a yakima roof rack from my Echo I use to carry around a kayak and could easily be adapted to carry bikes. If you look hard enough on the upper lip of the door frame you will see some indentions were I guess they intended for roof racks to hook on. ryan759 07-31-2005, 02:05 PM I’ve had my xA for a few months now but really need to put my Yakama roof racks on (still have them from my old car). Just wondering how much wind noise you get. I haven’t wanted to go get the correct clips & install because the wind noise was so bad in the old car I don’t want to do this to my new one. Scionpilot 08-03-2005, 03:00 AM With the Kayak on it can get fairly noisy, but I just counter balance that with the radio. scionmike05 09-13-2005, 05:05 PM looks kool i like it |
