Hi, i did a search (too many &*(^&*^ results). for this, tonight i noticed that my "eng maint" light (i think thats what it's called) was on...i had the trd muffler, and the aem intake installed about a month ago, but never had this light come on until tonight. I DID try unplugging the neg battery connector for about 2 minutes, and starting it back up...but nothing happened except my muffler sounding louder (heh)....so, after doing a search, and finding nothing...anybody have any advice, or a link to a prior thread?

thanks for your help in advance

found it .........

1. Turn on the ignition and make sure it is on your odometer display, not the trip display.
2. Turn off your ignition. Hold down the trip meter reset button and turn the ignition on. Keep the button pushed in.
3. The maintenance required light will flash for a few seconds. when it turns off, let go of the reset button.

i was way off......

disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery made the muffler louder? wtf?

yeah, it resets the ECU...meaning it'll redo the fuel maps...so the muffler sounding loud would occur because it doesn't know how to manage the fuel...

xdorkx, I think the maintenance light comes on when you need to change your oil. The Check Engine light come on when your maf throws fits...

cool thanks again, and yeah concerning the muffler, resetting the ecu DOES do that, as the engines cpu doesnt' yet know how to "respond" to the muffler, and intake (being non stock)...

thanks again for the help :)

As far as I know the "eng maint" light is just a change your oil light, based loosely on temp, rpm, & miles. Is it time to change your oil? Turning it off does not change the reason that it was on. Check this out. Also, the proceedure to turn it off is in the manual, oh yea I forgot, we men don't read stinking manuals. LOL!

if you get your oil changed before you hit the mileage before the light goes on it will still go on at the 5000 mark right becasue i got mine changed at 4000 and at 5000 that maint. req. light came on and I don't know if the mechanic can reset it if it isn't on. does anyone know? because I don't want to reset it if it isn't for my oil getting changed.

well mines just at 7500 mark right now and i got my oil changed at 4000, so it's not that, i'm assuming it's just the intake, or the muffler (or both combined)..but regardless, the cars running great, and the light hasn't come back on for me.. :)

Usually the maint. req. light comes on every 5000 miles from the last time it was reset. My wife just went through her first oil change and they forgot to reset the maint. req. light too. And as for the exhaust, my personal belief is that if you do any kind of performance mod, you should disconnect the battery so the ECU can reset itself. Then after re-attaching the battery, start the motor and let it idle for about 10-15 minutes so the ECU can do it's little boot up procedure and re-map the fuel curves and etc. This may not be everyones recommended procedure but it has worked for me on my Integra, my wife's old Civic, and now her new Scion.

Just wondering why we have owner manuals anymore...it cleary shows all the lights and tell you what they are "change oil" ugh...

LOL, but most people like me have a tendancy to just play with a new toy w/o reading the manual first. Since most cars drive pretty much the same (except for the new 7-series, I had to ask how to use their shift lever, it's weird) we pretty much think that a new car will drive just the same and then use the owners manual as more of a reference. But it's faster to ask someone rather than look for it yourself.

It is just a change oil light, I don't see how any changes to your exhaust or intake would effect it. You can reset this light whenever you like. It does not go on at 5000, then 10000, then 15000. It goes on 5000 after your reset. Are you sure you never had it reset at all? If it was reset at 2500 it would then go on at 7500. This is sure a lot of talk about an idiot light! Most don't even use this light. If you change your oil every 3000 then this light is useless anyway.

so it would be safe to say that after a oil change, once you do this.....it will come on from then on every 5,000 mile as it's own "reminder to us" that we are in need of a oil change?
