Default 07 Tc CAI for road trip?????

I have an 07 Tc and i have been getting 30-31 MPG on the stock car- less the exhaust. I am happy to say the least, but i am getting ready to drive a straight 3000 miles to South Carolina. I havent bought a CAI yet due to the fact forced induction is in my cars future, but would it be worth the money for this trip.. I have to double back in april so were talkin a minimum of 8000 miles in the next ten months.... from those of you who have upgraded to CAI would u think it worth the money just for this trip or should i do a drop in, or even just leave it?????

You might notice a minor difference but I don't think it would be worth the bother of the purchase/install/removal/sale of it if you're planning on going FI later on. 30-31mpg is pretty damn good for the tC as is...

Well, a CAI by principle gives WORSE mileage since you draw cooler air in, thus burning more fuel (this is how they make power.. you cant have both power gain and fuel economy increase from the intake no matter how bad the manufacturer wants to sell you on it).

The power gain is below noticeable by a long shot. I ran one for looks alone for a bit on the tC. Got worse mileage (althoug a tiny difference) and no change in power, even when removing it.

And lets say it got you (and it wont) 5 mpg increase.. that would save you a little over $100 per 12,000 miles or so of driving.

Seriously, I had the same idea when I went to Vegas. Dropped in my aem cai and...Zero difference. Drove over 500 miles on the highway and did not even get 2 mpg better fuel economy...
