Default Unstreetable?

When does a car become unstreetable?

Is that a problem of to much power and not enough stability?

Or just to much power even with a good suspension setup?

Well, there is unstreetable and streetable but a pain in the **** to drive. For example 400 whp in a front wheel drive will just be nothing but a pain on the street (yet another reason any real sports car is rwd or awd). A bunch of power and an overly agressive track clutch will suck to drive in day to day traffic. Things like that, while not technically unstreetable, will make you wish you werent driving it as a DD.

you'll also find your stock car unstreetable if say you were wanted by the local law enforcement for murder and they know your plates.

On occasion I would drive my 81 Monte Carlo on the street (to run Pro Street class it had to be legal). At almost 900rwhp, MT Wrinkle walls in the rear, pizza cutters and no suspension in the front it wasn't pleasant and with an 8gal fuel cell I couldn't go far but the DMV gave it plates if I had it on DOT tires so it was technically "streetable".

when a car is modded too uncomfortably and is unreliable to drive, then it becomes unstreetable in my opinion.

my previous 240sx had no a/c, no power windows/locks, no power steering, no interior/sound insulation, roll cage, 2 speakers, super stiff suspension, rough idle/tendency to stall at idle (HKS cams), terrible gas milage, unforgiving clutch (Exedy stage 3), constant faint smell of gasoline, and illegel motor swap. additionally the car was a cop magnet, and an even greater theif magnet. that car was unstreetable so I sold it LOL.

i'd put some driver skill in this equation as well. A driver with some experience and knowledge can drive ( with some restraint of course ) one vehicle on the road that another less experienced ( not always youthful ) driver could not handle. By experience I mean time spent with powerful rides, not just miles on the road. After all, 500+hp kicking out the **** end can be as much of a handful as 3-400hp on a front driver. And some of those clutches back then made your left leg look like a tree stump.
I'm sure many of us has seen or known someone get a hi-po car ( or crotch rocket ) and not make it very far..... just because a vehicle is capable of something doesn't mean the driver is...
