Hey guys,

Are the tail overlays just window tint rimmed to the right shape?

Thanks,

Mike

I think its something similar... but not the same. It's a little different vinyl. I don't think window tint would work.

well most overlays you get from quality sites is thicker than most window tint. but window tint technically would work if you're skilled with a razor blade. not quite sure what type of adhesive to use though. maybe some sort or spray-on adhesive.

It should work, there's a guy on here that used tint film from Wal-mart on his 3rd brake light and corner lights. It wouldn't hurt to try since tail overlays are $50/pair.

Tint is very hard to work with because it seems like it's more plastic than vinyl... also, from my experiences it weathers extremely easily. We all know how tint only lasts so long on the inside of a car... it's lifespan is half that outside.

Vinyl is much easier to work with, since it's strechable. I couldn't imagine trying to form tint around the curvature on our tails, especially up by the top. It was a nightmare with vinyl.

^yup, took me over 2 hours!!! and then had to take them off after about 6 months because of the laws here in WA, plus they were losing adhesion around the edges. I'd just go with spray like VHT or Vans, much easier.

I think I may know why your tails started coming up on the edges... did you cut them after you install them right on the edge of the lense itself or did you just crease it over the back and cut it?

Reason for asking is when you trim them along the lense (ON the lense, so it's a clean cut while still on plastic) if there is not a good contact on the edge it's real easy to come up.

I like the not-so-perm solution. If I don't like them in 2 months, or if I get pulled over by a cop, they peel off and i'm done.

^yeah I didn't cut them, just pulled them over the edge and blow dryed.
