View Full Version : My xA Body Kit Design: What Do You Think?

I'm not very good with photoshop, but here's my progress so far on my body kit design. If no company is interested in manufacturing the design, then I'll have it made myself.

I've got the whole design in my head, but putting it into pictures so others can understand it isn't easy. I'll keep working on the design until it's close to what I want.

Similar designs are used by several different aftermarket companies for various types of cars, but no one is producing anything like this for the xA:

Here are 2 examples of the look that I am going for on the front bumper:

My preliminary front bumper photoshop:

The new opening in the bumper will provide plenty of air to the radiator, CAI and brake ducts. so I added my extended hood design. (There is also a splitter under the bumper):

Now I'm working on the hood vent. I want something like the hood vent on my S2000:

I started with something like this, but it's not an optimal placement for the vent:

Here is the best placement for the vent:

The lines of the vent will match the lines of the car when I'm done. If this design doesn't flow, I'm going to try one like on the front of the NSX. That may be even better:

For side skirts, I like the Ducks Garden type. I don't really want to change the lines of the xA.

I'll start working on the rear bumper design soon.

Do you guys like this style, or do you think it's too aggressive for the xA???

Looks good. I my self would like something with a more rounded front end, not a box shaped. I think that might just increase the drag on the car :?

It doesn't look bad, just try to fix it a little bit more and keep us up dated.

The bumper will have to support a turbo intercooler, and I'll have to check on the appropriate sizing. There are already turbo kits available, so I will only need to fabricate custom piping to and from the intercooler, which isn't difficult.

I'll get an intercooler photoshopped in there soon.

I would say that a turbo for these little engines, would not need a big IC, or you would be looking at some lag..

Part Number-App--Type---Width-Height-Thick-Price
1303-RA008 ALL Core #8 200 255 65 $395.00

Maybe something that size from HKS. That is just he core, then you would need to add in the end pipes but that is a small IC.

Yeah. When I first started looking at the xA engine and the turbo kits, I realized that there is some potential for turbo lag. Mainly because the tubing has to run from the turbo at the back of the engine compartment to the intake and intercooler at the front of the engine compartment, and back to the throttle body. Still, I think turbo lag is mainly related to slower turbine spool-up, which may not be an issue at all. I'm not sure how much lag will be created by the total volume/volumetric efficiency.

One thing I'm working on is a custom intake duct. I don't think there's room on the xA bumper to do something like this, and I think it looks better without it:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/Kodokan/IntakeDuct.jpg

For the intake duct, I'd like to place the intake duct closer to the rear of the engine compartment, and also to use a vent design which will provide a ram air effect at speed. The intake duct will probably be in the hood, and the underside will seal against the top of the airbox/intake.

Here's what I'm talking about. The small vent on the rear of this hood is for hot air to flow out of the engine compartment. I want to have a vent like that pointing the other direction to bring air into the intake. It's still flush with the surface of the hood:

Here's one from an xB turbo kit. I think the size looks pretty good:

I'm not feeling the Vent so far forward. Something further back would look nicer IMHO.

bringing the hood down like that makes it look like a cavalier to me.

yeah use the rs1.0 grill and then a wrx style scoop towards the rear of the hood like 3/4's back. and yeah other than that gr8...
