View Full Version : xD MPG and trip computer
zoltiz 08-13-2007, 12:04 AM I'm nearing 1K miles on the xD so far - filled it up three times myself (came with full tank new).
First tank that I could calculate mileage on was 29.3 MPG according to the computer and 28.4 according to the odometer divided by gallons until pump click-off.
Second one was 34.9 according to the trip computer and 33.1 according to the odometer+pump.
Not too shabby, considering I'm running on relatively heavy tC wheels with large 215/50/17 tires.
Any other experiences?
forpinks 08-13-2007, 12:18 AM Quick mods! Are they from a Yaris?
You could get the mileage of a Yaris with a Camcon or R-VIT monitor/controller from blitz.
zoltiz 08-13-2007, 12:43 AM Sway and quickshifter are from the Yaris, springs are xD-specific, coming Monday, should be able to install them same night.
I won't be messing with Camcon - 30MPG is plenty for a 1.8L.
Was wondering if anyone else was able to compare self-calculated mileage with the trip computer values.
forpinks 08-13-2007, 01:04 AM Is that city MPG? I used to see 44MPG on my 9thgenrolla AT on the hwy at Fall, summers sees 38-40MPG. (But my city gets a bad 18-23MPG, Camcon will fix the mid-high RPM A/F ratios)
Are those springs TRD or are they JDM from the iST?
Post pics dude when you have them on/in!
zoltiz 08-13-2007, 01:33 AM Springs are TRD - ordered from TRDSparks - they are not on the website yet, but it's possible to call in and order.
Mileage is mostly highway, but going pretty fast, AC always on. I guess EPA ratings are getting more and more accurate these days.
forpinks 08-13-2007, 01:42 AM Dual VVT-i = LESS MPG???
WTF!?
It should get better MPG after 10K miles...
zoltiz 08-13-2007, 01:55 AM Gearing is very different. You can't get 0-60 of 8.5sec in a 'rolla.
forpinks 08-13-2007, 02:01 AM 7.8 on the base MT CE Rolla with 25K miles (9thgencorolla.com)... 9 in my AT S (last tested last week)
Yaris TS' w/ 11K miles gets a nice 41MPG at Yaris World. (Germany w/ A/C off.)

7.8 is pretty quick. I spent several days with an '06 Matrix XR 5-speed recently, and there's no way that thing could approach that - felt more like about 9.5 and it has the same engine as a Corolla. Does it weigh that much more?
I have owned two 5-speed Corollas in the past, a '93 LE and a '00 LE, both were 1.8 (the older one had a 1.6 as the base engine). They weren't rockets but they had plenty of power and of course awesome MPG.
I also tried out an automatic Vibe recently....mehh......
zoltiz 09-19-2007, 04:51 PM 7.8 can't be stock. Toyota's own 0-60 numbers are close to 9 seconds. Matrix is only about 150lbs heavier than a current gen Corolla, so 7.8 is definitely not stock. xD is 130lbs heavier than a Corolla, too.

Well then if nothing else, the xD should at least be "20 pounds quicker" than a Matrix :relief:
:D
I understand the gearing is better as well....
zoltiz 09-19-2007, 07:54 PM Gearing is also different, so xD is actually marginally quicker even without the pounds in the equation.
I wonder if my 18s will affect the gas mileage - they weigh the same as 17s, but the tires are 1/2" wider. We'll see in a month or so.

If the weight is the same, the effect should be minimal, I would think. Wider tires make for a LITTLE more aero drag, but think of how much of the tire is actually exposed to the wind going down the road - less than a third.
I had chrome 18" Konig Monsoons on a Miata once, with 215/35's, and everyone warned me how it would slow the car down (it only had 116 HP, but it was a very light Base model), but to be honest I didn't notice much difference. That car was also dropped on Intrax and had Konis, so it drove great regardless of the rolling stock....

My wife has had her xD for about two weeks, and will be adding gas soon. But at this point, she has two ticks left on her fuel guage and is at 290 miles. I'm betting she gets at least 30mpg, mostly city driving. I'll post again.
xBster 09-20-2007, 01:01 AM Your mileage is pretty good for 1k ...it will go up after you put a few thousand more on...mine was up and down between 25 and 33...now it is routinely 29 even with 18s and 10K....I can't wait to see how these xDs pan out....it will probably be my next Scion. Keep us posted.
azepolyn 09-20-2007, 01:49 PM I'll grab my notebook later today and check my mileages. I'm pretty sure all have been up around 30mpg.

Yep, I've seen good times in the magazines. The Corolla is the lightest car in its class these days, which helps a lot.

I promised to post again when my wife filled her tank for the first time. Odometer reading divided by gallons at clickoff (313/9.743) gives 32.1 mpg. Not bad!
___xDreme___ 09-21-2007, 03:05 PM My GF checked the mileage on her new one (Nautical Blue) last night.....with under 100 miles on the car, the computer was the closest I've ever seen to actual:
Computer: 31.6
Doing the Math: 31.3
Very good for such a tight engine!
azepolyn 09-28-2007, 07:32 PM 27.1 mpg
26.7 mpg
32 mpg
30.9 mpg
29.4 mpg
29.3 mpg
so far ... its a varied mix of hwy and street, and most are 3/4 or more tank of gas used. I've been really bad about trying to stretch out each tank, I don't mean to, it just happens.
