Would You Trade in This Classic xB for a tC??? UPDATED!!!!!
So I have been banging my head against the wall for the past week or so. I want to trade in my classic xB for an 08 tC. I want more power and something sportier.
Gas mileage is not an issue for me because I have a really short commute.... BUT I don't know if I can part ways with the Box.
It has been such a good car, not one problem.
I test drove the xD, the new xB and the tC.
I think Scion really screwed up in the redesign of the xA and xB.
I decided on the tC because I think it is the best looking and has the most bang for the buck out of all the models..... i.e. sunroof, 17inch wheels, horsepower.
My question for all you ScionLifers... Would you trade in this Box, in for a tC if you owned it? I feel so torn up about this.... it would feel like I have dis-owned a member of my family by getting rid of it!
The tC will have some big shoes to fill.
BREAKING NEWS:
Wednesday night on August 29th 2007 at 6:36pm I traded my '05 xB seen below for a 2008 Black Sand Pearl manual tC. To say I am happy is an understatement! More power... more solidly built and I feel a lot safer. I thought I would be making a mistake by getting rid of the Box... but I feel I made the right choice. If anybody is interested in buying my old xB, it is now at Elk Grove Toyota/Scion in Elk Grove California just south of Sacramento. When I traded it, it had 59,972 miles on it and is in near perfect condition. I assume it probably has not made it to the lot yet. It has a Magnaflow muffler, Enkei PKR wheels, custom stripe, carbon fiber door appliques, TYC tails and had it's oil changed religiously every 5k miles. I put new pads on the brakes about 10k miles ago. I'm sure the dealer will be replacing the windshield since it was cracked. It'll be interesting to see what price they put on it.
I'd like to see my old xB go to a good home and not some idiot who will abuse it.
I guess I need to change my screen name now... and now a round of new modding begins on the tC!

I feel the same here. I was planning on getting the new xD, but i'm just not diggin it.
So i kinda want more horses and a little bit more space but i dont care for the other 2 models cuz they been out for sum while. So i will be waiting fot the replacement or the new model of tC. If i dont like it.. i'll get a honda..
WTFever hahaha no way. I'll get anything toyota.
^___^ my brothers post. lol. Just keep it. You already put your life into it. Don't kick him out of the house yet. I don't want to get rid of my box either, but i have decided to get the new one. I wish i could get both, but i only have one parking stall. I'm going to get the better one, even tho its ugly.
I had a 2006 BOP xb and I traded it in for a 2008 Waveline Pearl TC. So I took the plunge and switched models.
The TC is much sporty car and I think it rides much better overall than the xb. It is also very quite driving down the highway.
I have the upgraded Pioneer Audio headunit with the OEL display which I think would be in color but it is not. It is a nice radio but I would really of liked to see a color display.
The gas mileage on the 2006 xb compared to the 2008 tc is within 3-5 mpg less.

I honestly couldn't. My whole reason for getting my 05 camo was I needed something with good gas mileage that would look cool, be able to fit my drums, and also be able to fit my fat ___ and 6,3 frame (while handling pretty well doing it)
The TC is an awesome car, but its another jelly bean in a sea of them. Your xB is fly, why not get a supercharger? Cheaper than what you will owe on a trade in and you will have a unique box.
However, if your not really carrying anything and your not a fat ___ like me, it might be a wise choice...FOLLOW YOUR HEART FIVEL!
Just my two cents.

My box is a working box. I don't treat it near as nice as most Scion owners do. I'll squeeze it in the tightest spots and load it up with tools or whatever. Hell, there's a ladder in it now. Horsepower is nice, but I need something for the city that can haul stuff. If the hp and ride is more important to you, follow your brain, but that box is real nice looking.
you know when new models come out - they always give you so much more for the same price as the new model?
i think the tC is going to be redesigned soon . maybe not in 08 but maybe in 09. if you can hold onto the box til then, you can get the brand new tc when it comes out as opposed to trading it in now and getting a tc thats gona be "out of date" in a couple of years.
i would hold onto the box and suppress the urge for more hp, etc. plus you're gona be saving money.
hope this helps. i'd keep the box if i was in your shoes.but that's just me ;]

while I am biased, I do understand the need (was going to get an '08 xB, and would have too if everyone didn't undercut me on trade) but this is what you have to look @. 1 while it may look nice, does it fit your needs? If it's just you most of the time, or you and one other person, then it's a ++ for the tC. The other thing to consider is if the tC is getting a redesign, you might want to hold off on what it looks like, that is one sweet box, and you'll have to mod the new tC all over again. Is your current box supercharged? if so, you might want to add it to hold you off until '09. From what I hear, it adds a load of power. And finally what is it going to cost you... is the current xB payed off? If so, will you be paying off the new tC? or financing? If so, how much will you be paying? how much equity doyou have in your current xB. Are you going to sell the parts to mod it back to stock, or find a lazy enthusiast who wants a car with all of that.
Wow, long winded post, BUT alot of things to consider, and a decision only you can make. So good luck

I would not. But then again, I just traded in my 06 xA with 7600 miles on it because I wanted a first gen xB. So I traded it in on a low mileage 05 xB with a few extras already added to it.
Some call me crazy, I call me in love with the box!

Why? I traded a tC for the xB... tC is not a nice car at all. Leaves alot to be desired and the build quality sucks @ss. If you want something nice, dont get a tC. Get a Lexus or Acura instead.
My wife's 06 tC is starting to get all those squeaks and rattles that many people talk about. It looks really sharp though.

Anyways, the tC and xB are two completely distinct cars and share no similar personality traits other than that they're both Toyotas. Does the tC have more power? By a long shot. The wife gets supremely frustrated when driving the xB because it simply doesn't 'go'. Is it's sportier? Yes. I remember when we first got the tC, and there weren't many around yet - I pulled up to a friend's house and the next door neighbors' kids ran up to their fence and shouted 'that's a nice car!' - never had that reaction for the xB.
Honestly, you're not going to get a straight answer from the xB boards. Obviously people are enamored by their vehicles. You've already driven it - you have to really determine what your needs are. Do you have kids or plan to have them? This two door business is a pain and a half with a carseat. Do you mind the reduced sight lines? The xB has a panoramic view of the road that's pretty much unmatched by most cars; the tC makes me feel slightly claustrophobic with how low the roof is and how little you can see in comparison.
I like both cars, but there's nothing relating the two at all (ok, the radios). Both get bang for their buck - the tC with all its standard accessories, and the xB with its roominess even though it's a compact car.
If I were you, I'd make a list and really weigh what you want more out of a car. If you're already thinking of trading your xB (which is nicely done up, by the way), your xB already has half an axle in the grave.

Just say NO! Resist the temptation to loose the equity you have in the box already to start over with another loan. If you really must have a tC wait a few years and pick up a used one after the box is paid off. My box is NEVER going anywhere! Plus later you will want to kick yourself for letting it go for what, a tC. I think not!
i did the exact opposite, i traded my tc for a xb. yes the tc has more power, but it lacks the unique styling of the xb, it rattles like hell(well at least mine did, it was a 05), plus there is a million tcs on the road. and by the way, i get way more feedback driving the xb than i ever did with the tc(although some is negative). ill tell you this, when i first test drove the box, i fell in love with that thing, i love my xb 10x more then i ever did my tc. i dont know what it is about it, and hey, if you tall like me, theres a ton more headroom. just my 2cents.

Hell, I wouldn't even trade it for some exotic sports car, even for free..
