hello all im facing a bit of a problem... i have a rivet gun to instal my jdm fuel lid but i want to know if anyone out there has a diy or know how to remove the oem fuel lid...

 

Allthough I had a shop do mine, I believe you have to do is drill out the old rivets...

can't you read japanese? it explains everything, LOL.

When you drill out the old rivets you need to take the copper wire that came with the fuel door and bend it in a U shape. at the bottom half of the U attach some painters tape and slide it behind where the rivet is and "catch" the back side of the rivet when you drill it out.

This keeps it from falling into the fenderwell and rattling around.

 

yeah i did it today i didnt use the coper or the tape but i when pulled it out nothing fell threw so i guess im ok as far as instal took less then 5min the hardest part was finding the damn drill... lol thanx though

 

I guess that's why my shop gave me a box full of wire and random pieces back! I knew an hour was longer than they needed! At least I made them do a bunch of other little things that I didn't have the strength or nerve to do while they were at it!

you guys think it looks better with them, I think it looks better without. cleaner. It's just my aesthetic preference. :D

Hmmmm, some flush fitting solid (aviation style) rivets would sure look better than "pop-rivets".
+1 on the clean, sticker free look.
