Default what is this?

it is a little switch next to the shifter...I can find nothing that it actually DOES...looks as thought there should be a cover over it, but there is not.
this is in an '06 xB with auto trans...

I bought this vehicle preowned for the wife and Scion claims to have sent me an owners manual, but I have yet to see it...the wife is asking what the switch is for..

Yes there should be a cover there.

and the switch is in case your shifter
gets stuck, you can unlock it.

no idea what happened to the cover...I guess it is salvage yard time...

unlock a stuck shifter? like, stuck in park? or low?? or neutral? or should I hope it never gets stuck?

thanks guys...I guess I need to find a salvage yard with one in it to see what I can find...I also seem to be missing a piece of the lower grill that plugs a hole for a driving light(?)...

gets stuck in park... say if you blew a certain fuse that controlled the mechanism that unlocks the shifter when you have to press brake to move it out of park.

it's the override for that.

The cars come from the factory with the cover removed in a little plastic bag, and a note attached saying to install it. It makes it easier to load and unload them when they're on the ship, so the worker doesn't have to get in and step on the brake to get it out of park. There's either a piece they add or remove to enable the safety feature before putting the cover on .

yeah, that's the inner-lock switch, case you get stuck in park or you need a tow and have to get to neutral, push it down and you override the mechanism to move the shifter about..hope that helped...

it's actually meant for use when being serviced so they can change the gear into neutral.

a few months ago my wife's altima's battery completey died, and because of this the car wouldnt allow me to turn the key over to get it into nuetral so i could push it out of the garage (weird huh?), so anyways, i had to pop that cover off and push the button down to shift the car into nuetral.

Wow, three years and this is the first I heard about this switch. Good to know!
