Default Window Tint

http://www.solargard.com/Assets/PDFs...nting_Laws.pdf

What do %VLT and %R mean? I'm guessing they are two different ways to judge the tint level?

How is it that I live in one of the only states (Illinois) that doesn't allow tints ANYWHERE on the car!?!?!

The government is out of control!! Friggin Republicans and Democrats just want to control every little detail of our lives. (Side note, that's why I vote Libertarian.... www.lp.org).

I didn't know where to post this so please move to appropriate forum if its really bothering you.

You read that chart wrong. Actually, I think it states no tint on the front window, but you are not limited on the darkness on the side or rear windows. That appears to be a very generous law in Illinois.

Yeah, I read it wrong, here is a better chart:

http://www.tintdude.com/itom.html

Still, Illinois is one of just FOUR STATES that doesn't allow tint on the front sides..... but the state allows any percentage on the rear and back.

How retarded would a car look with tints on the back and rear but no tints on the passenger and driver's side windows in the front? I saw that kind of tint on a VW Jetta a few days ago and it was the most horrendous thing I've ever seen.

The VLT% is how much light is allowed through lower the number, darker the tint.
The R% is how reflective it is.

A small addition to what redfish said:

VLT = Visible Light Transmission (% of light allowed to pass throught the tint)
R = Reflection (% of light reflected off the tint)

Isn't that how stock xBs come cause their classified as a van or truck or something like that? The xB I saw on the lot looked all stock and the front sides were clear but the back sides were BLACK!

And I think they should allow more then 35% in Nevada, cause that sun's a SCORCHER!

But the real question is, if a cop pulls you over, how is he gonna know if you have 35% or 20%?

so when you order a scion with window tint, do they make it as dark as possible according to your state's level allowed?

I had a city policeman put a meter on both sides of my glass and it gave him the tint levels. Looked like a breathalizer but with a hook at the end.

The difference between 35, 20, 15, and 5 is pretty obvious, especially once you've seen them lined up.

And cops have seen enough of them to know just by looking. In Illinois, its even easier since you are not allowed to have tints in the front. So if you have your windows rolled up (which is a must for at least five months of the year), they can easily pull you over any time.

I would say the chances of you being pulled over aren't too high if you are driving "normal," but as soon as you are stopped for a traffic violation, you're probably going to get slapped with a window tint fine as well.

in ga they use a card behind the tint and start writing if you fail, not that way evrywhere in the state,we are limited to 35%but my son has darker and no problems yet,it has a lot to do with with your driving ,also loud pipes will get you pulled over and then tha tint thing starts.
