Max2k 10-14-2004, 01:56 AM Probably flexes more than the frame it's trying to brace.
kshymkiw 10-14-2004, 02:24 AM a strut tower bar is a strut tower bar. You won't notice a diffrence between that and a Hotchkis.
I used to Auto X my honda with a $15 strut brace from e-bay, i also had a spoon strut bar.......couldn't tell the diffrence between the 2.....just the bling factor of the spoon
hotbox05 10-14-2004, 02:52 AM i have that one :) it's great. all the strut bars i've ever got for any car were cheap and on ebay and they have all been great additions to the cars they were put on

Aircraft billet aluminum flexes for nobody!!! (unless over your knee, which you xB won't do :P )
My friend the man with a PHD in Metallurgy studied it for me. The more advanced bars are looking to help with flex from front to back motion of the strut towers (hence the seperated bars). If your muscle powered xB creates that kind of flex from it's monster engine attempting to put all it's power to the ground in a hurry, it would contribute a TEENY TINY BIT only then. Otherwise, as a far as left to right goes, it's all style.!!!
rallyxb 10-14-2004, 01:55 PM Thanks for the info all.
:D
Sounds like a deal to me and good enough for my xB.

oni424 10-14-2004, 02:29 PM I got that exact same bar on my car. i got mine from e-bay for $8 with $15 shipping. Do a search on e-bay under scion xb you'llfind a ton of them. Ps it is a pain in the ___ to install
what :x these people are nuts i bought this same bar on ebay it is cheap and ugly
i wish i did not waist my time if they had looked they would know that the thing will flex if road hard the mounting plate is very thin and the bar is not nice
junk stay away spend the money $75 and get the dc sports if you are really wanting something worth the money   :x :x

I'm sorry. I'm gonna have to John Kerry here and flip-flop on my stance. This gentlemans compelling arguement and frequent, yet eloquent, use of the kinda angry face and sad face has changed my mind.
I had previously stated my stance based on fact, but the Emoticons win the debate!
rallyxb 10-14-2004, 05:20 PM So then... any recommendations on strut-tower braces for the xB?

You do realize my 2nd post was in jest? Look at pics on my link below. I tested it on a rally track in West Virginia. There was very little body roll in the front of the vehicle in hard turns, WITHOUT SWAY BARS UPGRADED.
I will add the sway bars, but the bar performed wonderfully. The gentleman from Georgia is correct about how ugly it is. That's the only drawback.

nice ride dude i looked at pics
if you really look into it the way the xb is built the towers are such a part of the firewall and body construction that it really wont flex anyway i beleive that you dont even neeed it if you have sway bars on it is mostly for looks in my best quess
hard to prove that it works

And to your point about construction. I was a HUGE nay sayer and was completely willing to take a chance on it. That's why i bought the cheapo with the resolve to buy a high dollar one if it worked. I got 1000 miles of regular driving on my beast before putting it on. Once in place I DEFINATELY could feel the difference, mostly on cloverleaf interstate ramps. It is more fun on street corners too! I did not run it all out on a road track without the bar, but I still believe it is an improvement.
The only other thing that added more stability to my ride was my JJ Products arm rest. I can now stay in the drivers seat by gripping that thing while I steer. I cannot imagine life without it.
theappe 10-14-2004, 06:18 PM how did u get those clean corners like that. i want some :)

and some Titanium coated, yet amber bulbs. You could try to put LED's in there too, I've been dragging my feet on it. You are on your own to find them.
hotbox05 10-15-2004, 02:15 AM dude the "thin " plate will not bend unless you track it every day. trust me these bars work and are a great cheap addition. i'll admit if i was doing stuff other than just street i would get better quality but for the average street carver these rock.
