Default Roof Rack & Cargo Box

Hi... I'm taking delivery of a new classic silver xB later this week. Our previous ride was a Honda Element. We have 6 month old twins and the rear-facing car seat thing just wasn't going to work in the E -- with the suicide doors and the rear "stadium seating" we would've had to climb in the car and do some serious wrangling every time to get them in. With the xB we can just plop them down and strap 'em in.

My question is this... (I've done some searching here, but haven't found anything definitive)... We're probably going to take some trips to the grandparents and will need additional storage space. I had assumed this could come from a rooftop cargo box, but as I've looked into there aren't many (any?) suitable rack options available. The Inno and Yakima that clamps to the door jamb seem to have a pretty low weight limits and once you put a cargo box on it it'd be maxed out -- if I am figuring it right. I could be wrong, so please feel free to correct me if you know differently.

Does anyone have a cargo box on a current-gen xB? Is this even possible? If so, can you share the details? If not, what are some other storage solutions that would work without folding down the rear seats.

Thanks for any help!

What did you end up getting or finding out.. im interested too... Yakima "fit my car" shows that they have some that have a 165 weight limit. My question is about the crossbars... 58"??? i know xB1 guys use the 58" but the xB2 is wider... yet it still uses the 58"? Curious to see what the INNO is.

my xb1 was recently totaled..I just went to yakima.com yesterday to get the dimensions for the rack for the xb2.

I'm planning on putting on after the cars first wash - I don't believe i've seen any pics of an xB2 with a rack on it...

I don't own a camera - but ill try and get a pic up there...

hope it looks as cool as it did on the xb1.

cheers!

btw - 58" bar works fine - theres about 3.5 - 3.75 inches of excess bar after the towers are locked on.

I have the bars all measured out...just haven't put it on the car yet

Are 58" what you are putting on? What kind of rack did you get?

I bought the rack off ebay from a toyota distributor - comes with q-towers, locks, 58" bars. it does not come with fairing or any other attachments.

toyotamall1- is the ebay handle

I don't think you can go any shorter than 58" for the bar. There isn't much excess.

I should have pics up tomorrow or monday of the car with the rack on it...your motivating me to finally get it on the car...currently have the set up sitting in the back of the car. I keep throwing my bikes in the back seat - Its killing me!!!

Posted in https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie....php?p=2858676.

I finally got my Yakima roof rack installed. Great fit. Looks pretty much like n2htwlz's in his pics. I just positioned them a little different (per Yakima Specs) so it sits more forward. Ill try to take pictures tomorrow.

I'm still debating on the fairing... anyone shed some light... do I or don't I?

This is a repost.. but oh well....

I ran straight to REI to get the fairing.... 20% w/ coupon!

Not the best photos to show off the rack, but here's what I got......
