...hey...for all of u that have the stock radio still. If u hold down the SSP button for 10 seconds, it will as you which car you have...and you can change it for xb or xa!...it makes a big difference in the way your system sounds....it seems the peeple at the dealership don't know this :? ...i was riding around with mine set on XA and i have an XB...man what a difference in sound when i changed it  ....just a littly FYI

i have an xB and in mine the xA equalizer setting sounds better for some reason.....it has more highs than the xB setting.....

but it only takes 3 seconds on mine to activate it....

i keep the SSP set on Feel unless it get too bassy, then i go to Hear

if you listen to AM at all, Hear or Neutral seem to work best.....

yeah my dealer was quick to check and show that to me as well, but someone else made sure we caught that because some people could notice it in the xBs that it sounded different than their xBs:

scionara showed me that the second week I learned about scionlife. I thought the xA mode is supposed to be louder. I just keep it on xA for the louder sound.

Thx for the tip. First thing Drew did when he showed me the radio was switch it to "XA", but I couldn't remember how he did it. I also set it to "Feel" and what a difference that makes!

I feel so dumb... I am used to all of these computer jukeboxes being able to play all the different music formats. I had copied all of the songs from my computer to 4 CDs to play in the car, only to find that the sucker literally only plays MP3s, lol. Now I have to go back and convert 350 songs from WMA to MP3, and burn all new CDs. Only about 80 of the songs were already in MP3 format.

As the experts always love to harp, "RTFM". Bleah!

Here's what I have found to be the most pleasant (and perhaps the most accurate) in my xB...I set the environment to xB. I find the sound far more natural and far less phasey than with it set to the xA environment. I have all tone controls set to '0' -- except BASS -- which I have at -2, and the DSP set to "FEEL." Not bad for a stock stereo.

scionracerxb

i have mine set on XB, and the ssp set to hear, and all the levels at 0....only because i have an amp on the bass, and I set the amp so that it has the perfect amount of bass with everything on 0, but if i wanna pump up the bass, all i gotta do is turn up the bass a lil

New Scion owners don't forget to check out the xA and xB setting on the stock radio. I found out about it yesterday when I was reading the manual for the radio/cd player. I decided to "search" before posting a new topic about it.

Also, I was successful in burning an MP3 disc. EZCD 6 has an MP3 choice when creating an audio CD. Music at last - the tape player broke in my old car about 9 years ago and the radio died two years ago!

Here is the deal... in the xB the speakers in the back are burried behind the seats... in the xA they are not... so in xB mode it gives the rear speakers more power.. to compensate for being burried...

just tested it out in my xB with some B-Boys, Paul's Boutique (most under-rated album ever)

anyway this sounded best for that album ... other albums, types of music and personal preferences will obviously differ ...

set to xB
SSP - Hear
treble (-1)
bass (+2)
faded (-3) to the rear

the only consistent thing i've found is that the radio sucks no matter what you set it to.

... all that little test did for me was create an insatiable taste for an upgrade!

Hi,

I just went out to my 05 xB (stock radio) and went thru the settings. I also set mine for now over to xA cause it seemed to have a more fuller sound with my mp3 disc.

But being that its about 1:15 AM right now, it made me give a good think about maybe ding the mod for overhead lights in the front and/or rear areas..... or maybe somebody makes an overhead light with more directional lighting....

Hmmm... for me it comes up by pushing the "audio control" button and then selecting "on or off"

But yeah, it does seem to make (some) my mp3 discs sound better. "SRT" stands for "sound retouch" BTW

Heh, arise from the grave ye old thread! So, once again, does anyone know exactly what these changes do to the speakers? I'd hate to use a different car model and find out that 6 months later my speakers start vibrating badly because I was routing the wrong amperage to them or something. No, I dont know much about car audio. :lalala:

You won't mess up your set. My guess is that settings have to do with speaker location, speaker direction, and volume of interior airspace. But I am just guessing.

2006 Xb, when i held down the SSP setting was on TC. this setting had a very flat tone and not that loud at max vol. so i dont know if only the '06 has the 3 settings TC, XB, and XA but the XA i think has the sharpest high's and loudest overall sound XB still very loud but leans toward the mids... IMO the TC setting sucks in the XB... Also the '06 can play MP3 and WMA files... do the previous years?

What a cool thread. I just found it today, thanks to those who 'brought it back.'

To those who did want it to die, why? Regardless that it's 2 years old, it's information that still works, and that isn't widely known.

I wouldn't have done a search for this, cuz I didn't know it existed. At the same time, not many of us have the free time to browse EVERY single thread to find info we didn't know before.

Give it a rest, and thanks for the tips.
