Good luck...

Will this process accomplish anything?

its not suppose to do a big difference, its just letting the engine get a bit more cold air without spending big bucks on a intake... its just somthing to do when your bored. :x

i did it to the car already. all you do is unhook the pipe from where the headlight lash is and turn it clockwise either to where the foglight harness's are or you can direct it all the way down by the radiator fan. its jus a project to do if ur bored n want to do somting fun to the car for no cost. :D

I will be doing it. Why pay $250 for something that you can do for less than $70 and get the same performance in the end.

Please post some picts if you can, I wanna see how it looks.

doing this may help a little bit, but the real benifit of a CAI system is that you have less bends and blockages in the system, and therefore less restriction/disruption to the airflow

yes getting colder air in the stock box will help a bit, but coupled with an intake pipe that has less bends, or even better, a velocity stack type design, you'll see much better performance.

it's great for a diy mod on the cheap, but don't be too dissapointed when it doesn't perform as good as an aftermarket intake system

Also remember that by getting a new intake all together, its proven to make power. Mandrel bent, bigger piping, new filter..etc..the stock airbox is a HUGE restriction.

That's why I will build my own CAI for less then $70 and not use the stock box. Done it before for another car and will do it again.

Homemade kits have proven to make either a small change, no change and even hurt performance. Its hard to justify spending a few hundred on an intake for anly 5 hp in our case.

There is a greater benefit to length tuning than there is to whether or not its a "cold air" intake in normal operating temperatures.

Homemade kits have proven to make either a small change, no change and even hurt performance . Very true, unless you know how to do it. Here's an excellant explanation on the whole process and what you need to know when building one.

very true

the only modified intake system taht will give you less gains is probably the "dragon" intake system

but DIY intakes if done right are the best bang for the buck

They left out a whole bunch of things on building an intake system. Unless you can dyno tune your intake, don't make one. Just go buy one.

Very true but in contrary there are some applications that have used stock air boxes with cold air ducts that did very well......so well it was used in SCCA sanctioned races and the car spanked a plenty of them especially the memorable Laguna Seca routing of Realtime Racing.

For you former and present Honda diehards.......do you know what car this was and who drove it?

Thought of this already......you have an advantage over us Californians.....we have a bi-annual smog check, so its hard for us to tamper with things. I also priced a new box (just the cover), 260 bucks, was definatly not worth it. 8)

i modified my stock air box, i took out the plastic cylinder on the top part of the air box around the MAF sensor, it seems to pick up RPM's a bit faster but who really knows

Why not just make a poor man's intake. Courtesy of SUPASCION

Well, we can pay off the state for the first two tests, so we actually have 6 years until you'll actually get smogged. The guy at the lube place was warning me about that, after they all came to gawk at my intake last night. Told him I could have it back to stock in about 2 hours, emissions-wise. (BTW,I was proclaimed the "sickest Scion" they had seen and even got one guy who gave the car the evil h8r look at first to say "I normally hate these cars but I like what you've done" hehehe)

i dont think it will make it all the way in front of the opening of the fog, its a lil too short but would still be cooler air.

last night i did a throttle body coolent bypass and modded my stock intake again, i turn the accordion hose part to face down. ill post pics and a how to on the bypass. i could tell the differance in the heat of the throttle body because i drove to my parents house and my mom's xB had been sitting for a bout an hour she said and my body was still WAY cooler than hers was and i just drove over there, they live about 25-30 mins away.

check out the weapon r ram air kit... if you connect it to the opening to the stock box... should be interesting to see what happens...

one opening looks like it'll fit perfectly with the fog light location.. the rest is just a flexi tube which looks like you can easily mod it to connect to anything
