Default To paint or not to paint RS1 front lip myself? BSP

I have a BSP tC now I've seen a BSP tC without paint or primer on thier rs1 front lip and it looked good barely noticable but will the elements eventually do damage to the plastic or its just the same as having it painted? I'm thinking of painting the front lip myself since i do have a BSP. Thanks for your inputs!

I think the new lip from racingsolution is $200 w shipping and the CF is $300 but ill check on ebay see if i could find a used one or ill check out the SL classifieds.

You got a good deal on that lip save you a $100 bucks. Well I'll decide by monday then order that CF lip is backoreder from racingsolutions might have to wait a while. Do you have any sides or rear on your tC? or you just going to put on the front and call it quits?

Its no difference if its painted or not the weather wont matter. If you paint it yourself the paint will peal like a banana in a monkeys hand. You have to get that sprayed with plastic adhesion spray. (pla-stick) is the name of the product most shops use. Then you'll have to have something with more pressure than a spray can to paint it if you want it to look good. You'll need real car clear because that stuff in a can isn't UV resistant and or nearly good enough to take the sun.

Thanks for the information. But you wouldnt recommend a DIY paintjob right? well could i go through the whole process of sanding primer paint and clearcoat. I did it with my frost white integra stock black oem sides and they came out good. Numerous users on team-integra had done this and there is a write up on the process. But just wanted to make sure bc I never came across a topic on scion life about this. But seems your auto painting saavy so what your input on this? Hey how much you think a paint job would be on just the front lip anyway?

You can skuff it, then you'll need to get it coated with plastic adhesion. Paint wont stick to polyurethane or anything like that so what they do is spray it with a liquid that grabs to that material. Then the paint grabs that. You can do it yourself but you'll wanna get it plastic sprayed. Then you'll wanna buy a can of UV resistant clear. IT should be fine then.

P.S. Anything sprayed with a spray can is suggested to not be wet sanded. Not enough pressure from the gun to hit it and the paint is too thin. Make sure you do it where you wont get dust. Put paper under it and change the paper every once in a while.

id say DIY because if your low, your probably gonna scrape the hell out of it....

plus its easy to paint.

1.spray on plastic adhesive (its ABS plastic so it needs to get paint to stick)
2. wetsand it since it will be rough
3. spray on 3-4 light/even coats of paint (redline automotive sells spray cans that are color coded to match the color of your car)

and then your done...

no need to spend 150+ just for a front lip to get painted

yea im on hotchkis springs and think if i added the lip i would start to scrape so im going to paint it myself. Well looks like I got my self a project for labor day weekend. I'll post pictures of the results next week. I was thinking painting at a shop would take me at the $100+ ranage and that would be just as much as the CF RS1 lip.

you'd only be scraping the bottom. I still say get it pro done. Everybody els gets it pro done. I never herd of anybody painting their own lip kit with a spray can. Spray cans belong on interior jobs.

well i have a carbon fiber lip and yea i RARELY scrape on some crappy roads and SOME steep driveways if I'm not careful. Scraping is mostly on the bottom though..not really noticeable unless your looking under my lip...some of the roads where I live really suck so it can't be avoided.

I dont care if I scrape. I scrape every time i leave the drive way and leave the alley. It doesent bother me. You cant see it, but you know its there cuz of how low the Kaminari front is.
