View Full Version : Bad experience at Right Scion

I completely understand that car dealerships are in the business of making money, and to that end their job is to sell a car with maximum profit.

What they should not do, is screw their customers.

I went to Right Scion in Scottsdale to buy my xD. Slowly, over the course of the next three hours I experienced pretty much every lie a car dealer can tell a customer. It started with the sales manager saying he could not wave one of two dealer/doc fees. I should have left right then and there, but I didn't.

The next game they wanted to play was to ask how much I wanted to pay a month for my car. I knew they were going to try and take me for more money at this point. After they played their little game of running back and forth to the finance office pretending to be working hard, they came back with a figure I knew had to be inflated somehow. I decided to just get to the finance office and see what they had added on to inflate my monthly payment. I should have left, and still I didn't.

The finance office offered no relief from shady tacticts. I discovered that the purchase price of the car had been typed on the sales contract wrong, to push the purchase price up over $16,000. Were they hoping I wouldn't know that the price of the car was less than that? I don't know. They had also tacked on lojack, the most expensive extended warranty they offer, and a prepaid maintanence plan. They added all of these features without ever asking if I wanted them.

I let my wife talk me into buying the extended warranty and the prepaid maintanence plan. I made two mistakes that day. I never should have signed the papers and I never should have taken the wife along. :)

So now I am in the process of cancelling a prepaid maintanence plan that I was charged $1800 for even though they sent me the paperwork that is for the cheapest plan they offer. I am not sure who screwed that one up, but I am getting my $1800 back one way or another. The packet didn't even include information about half the services the finance guy promised would be in there like 15, 30 and 45 thousand mile services.

I can't wait to fill out a Toyota Customer Satisfaction Survey. I think I am going to call the State Attorney General and Better Business Bureau next week. I love the car, but I still have a sour taste in my mouth from buying it. I would not recommend Right Scion to anyone.

Can someone with Toyota dealership knowledge tell me about cancelling the prepaid maintanence plan? I am going to mail it to corporate headquarters so there is no chance Right Scion will try to monkey with my refund. I hope I can get back the full purchase price, because after checking the Toyota website, I see that the "suggested" retail price for the plan I bought is way less than what I paid. I want to make sure I get every cent back, or applied to my loan balance. I am well within the 30 day refund period and I haven't used any of the services.

Hey RJ, if I could take back the car and go to Camelback instead, I would. What's done is done. Though, I do want to buy some floormats, sway bar and the overhead console. All of that add-on goodness will go to a different dealer. I didn't want to finance that stuff.

I realize that I almost allowed myself to get really screwed. I am the only one to blame for the mistakes I made. I will just chalk it up to a learning experience. Next time I buy a car, the dealership is going to cry when they hand me the keys. I will not budge until I get an amazing deal with no crappy sales tactics.

Though for the bending over Right Scion gave me, I should have at least driven off with some free floormats.

We all know that I had some issues with that dealership when I purchased my tC. It's been a year later, and I'm still directing my friends to Camelback (and Avondale). Right Scion also lost the sponsorship of a car club because of shady tactics. They really need to start listening to their "customers", instead of trying to pad their bonus checks.

Did you buy the Toyota extended warranty or a different one? That might make a difference.

Most Scion dealers have the option of what they want to sell you as far as extended warentee goes. You need to educate yourself as a consumer to buy what you want.

For instance. The dealer I bought my car from wanted to sell me an MPP warrentee but I wanted the Toyota warrentee. The MPP warrentee was going to cost me 400-600 more than what the Toyota warrentee was going to cost me. I pushed for the Toyota and they made it happen. They tried to tell me the MPP was better, but even when you compaired the warrentees, the Toyota was better.

I will not mention what dealer I used, because I still respect the sales men. They are just doing what they are told, but you need to educate yourself as a consumer.

I knew exactly what I should be getting for the trade, exactly what I should be paying for the extended and exactly what I should be paying for everything. I also had a check from my finance company ready to pay the dealer when I got there. The only other thing I paid for besides the extended that I did not plan on was the road hazard for my wheels and tires. No matter what wheels and tires I put on up to $3000.

Sorry bud. If you would have come to this forum prior, everyone would have sent you to Camelback and Avondale. And we all have salesmen at both locations that will take good care of you. Scion is a great corp, but people want to make money and they will make it in the best way they can. Goood luck.

Still sorry man.. Did not mean to make that sound bad. I was at work on break.. not enough time to post what I wanted.. Might be a off thing to do and Bryan just loves me for doing this, when its not his issue but, he might give you some help on what you might be able to do? Dunno.. Give him a yell 602-264-2841 That is Camelbacks number. I know he is a very Scion driven guy, like myself...

I bought the Toyota extended warranty, and I paid the retail price for it, so I am happy with that part of the transaction.

It's the prepaid Toyota maintanence plan that I want to get a refund for. According to the materials they sent me, it should be a pretty easy process. But in checking the Toyota website, I see that they charged me a few hundred dollars more than the plan is worth. And then the paperwork I got in the mail is the paperwork for the cheapest plan, not the expensive plan they tacked on. I guess I will have to write a letter, copy the sales contract and send all of that back in with the paperwork and hope they refund the whole purchase price. Otherwise I have to take it to arbitration and that is a pain.

I am new to Scion and new to Phoenix, but I hope to make it out to some events soon. I am a student and work full time so it's hard. I took the xD to Airpark Tint yesterday and had some nice dark tint put on. I am shopping around for wheels next week.

Welcome to the community, I'm sorry your experience so far hasn't been that great. I hope to see you out at one of our many meets we have coming up.

To get this thread more visibility and have it be in a place where it more belongs I am moving it to a different section, I will leave you a "shadow" link though so people in our region can still see a link to it.
