help w/ color choice!
At first my thoughts "of course, I want a BLACK xB"...
now my thoughts "hmmm...silver is nice too..."
I'd love to hear opinions on the ups and downs of having a black vehicle vs. the silver.
My initial thoughts are that the silver won't show every dirt smudge and look "newer"...but black is so sharp....
thoughts?

Black shows lighter dirt more. Silver shows darker dirt more. From a just a short distance most black cars look cleaner than lighter color cars given a similar amount of dirt and road grime.
Black is a high maintenence color. It takes a lot of work to keep swirl marks from showing. Silver is pretty low maintenence. Just clean it and it looks good.
Black is a very hot color. On a hot sunny day you can measure the temp of almost any color car and it probably will not get over 170 degrees. Black will be 220 degrees or so. I saw the measurement done on tv and then tried it myself when I owned a black truck. All that heat conducts into the car which will make it hotter than other cars when you get in and much harder to cool down. Silver is the exact opposite.
Black is a sexier color than silver but I think silver is a better blank pallete color if you plan to do any type of graphics.

i'd say, find the color that you can see yourself driving all the time that would match a color for accenting that you like and go from there. i was wanting silver til i saw the blue for my tc, then once i saw it had orange gauges it sold me completely. and if you get white...have fun keeping it clean lol

Black is the hardest color to keep clean, period.
I have a white XB and have owned just about every color and white keeps clean quite well. Just had 3 staight days of rain here and you could barely tell it was dirty, it doesn't show dirt like you may think.
Light colors always show less dirt, darker always will show more.

Thanks for the input.
I wish they made the xB in the dark grey...that would solve my problem! Personally, I hate white cars... too many businesses (including the post office) use white vehicles, so I always think of white cars as someone's business car or rental!

I just drove my Classic Silver off the lot. I like it. I've had a white car ('98 New Beetle) and it showed too much dark dirt. I previously had a black car ('05 Magnum) that showed too much light dust. Silver seems *just* right.

My last two cars were black and were a pain in the butt to keep clean. Something like the California Car Duster is required for dark cars if you want it looking good a day after it's washed. Also, water spots and swirl marks show up a lot more.
I have white now, and it has beem a lot easier to keep clean-looking so far...
