hey guys
Since I got my new drag dr-18s, i took off my billet grilles as they didn't really match black/polished lip look. they kinda started looking bad anyway... but! out of boredom and curiosity, i've wanted to repaint the grilles and put them back on. some form of black I think would look nice. it definitely does need new paint, as so many rocks have hit it... it looks awful.
anyone done this? helpful hints? I asked around a bit and the best answer I got was to just sand it and coat it a few layers, but somehow i doubt thats the best I can do... so any help would be great!
thanks

i went ahead and gave it a bit of sanding, and sprayed it down. looking pretty good actually. im thinking of giving it another fine fine sanding to smooth it out a bit, and maybe get a layer of some kind of clearcoat. I'll post pictures as soon as I have them on!

I'll do the sanding and clearcoat probably tonight. I'll take some pictures right after. I think its gonna look awesome.
when you're bored, and have some banged up billet grilles, this is what happens.

sand them with 1000 and tack cloth them clean and primer........with say 3 good coats.......wet sand again.......and tack cloth again.......base coat and clear coat.......let paint dry to a good cure for a week to help it get a good hardness to it it will help it last longer.........also use good paint like Krylon.

well quite honestly this experiment has gone horribly wrong.
for the past few days I've been using airline stripper to get the layers of paint off that I put on the first time. it is such a pain i cannot even describe. once that's done, i do have my primer, paint, and clearcoat ready.
i know it'll look great when it's done. but this will teach me to do it right the first time.

Alright. well.... yet another twist to the story. don't ask how... but in the process of stripping paint off, they got RUN OVER. they have been destroyed, so, I'm ordering new unpainted ones... haha... i cant believe how much trouble these have been!
