So what is the background with the bB badges I'm seeing everywhere?

The bB is the Japanese Model that the xB is made from. It has been made in Japan since 99 I think... It makes the xB look more original to have the true badges on it I guess...

In Japan..the Scion xA has a badge of Toyota ist and the Scion xB is a Toyota bB.
bB stands for Black Box (or BLing Bling to some..like Randode and Verone)

There is a popular trend from the past few years on badging Japanese cars for the US Domestic market with the Japanese makes thus changing the badges to look more JDM (Japan Domestic Market).

Just to be different. Most people who know a lot about Japanese cars such as the Silvia, Fairlady, Altezza, Trueno are familiar with the naming convention.

In Japan, it goes the other way where there is a trend of making their cars look more "American".
