Default How to Remove Stock Shift ****?

Forgive me if this is a silly question. HOW DOES ONE REMOVE THE STOCK SHIFT **** FROM THE 5-SPEED'S SHAFT? Thinking it might simply twist off, I have applied moderate pressure, but it is resistant to movement. I sure do not want to break anything.
-TRD Sparks just delivered my new leather TRD shift **** (small ball shape). Unfortunately, the packaging's instructions are in Japanese.
