Default expensive windshield???

Okay, so I at least attempted using the SEARCH bar up top to research this topic but trust me, it's hard... we shud have the SEARCH button googlized or something.

Any how, our '06 xB has a crack in the windshield that eventually will cause us to replace the windshield. We are in no rush to replace the windshield but as I started calling around to price a replacement I was being told about $240 for a replacement windshield.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT INVOLVING INSURANCE; WE ARE PAYING OUT OF POCKET.

Does anyone know of a place to get a windshield for the xB? I thought with that with bB being in Japan for quite some time that parts for the xB would be cheap. We replaced a windshield for our '01 Corolla and it only cost us about $100 (maybe a little more) for a replacement.

Advice anyone? Thanks in advance.

Price vary on who you go with. Not that i have a xB, but i just got my tC windshield replaced and it cost me $210. they Cheaper the price you get, the cheaper the service you get. They managed to save my weather strip but i can tell the didnt seal the window entirely because i can hear wind coming in just about my dash. now i have to call them back out to do it right!

I know this doesn't help much and it's not exactly what you asked but Mine is cracked as well. I called up my insurance and they said it would be $100 for it.

Ill also ask GothBox he just replaced his windshield . ill see how much he got his for.

I just priced one with Safelite the other day and they quoted 225 installed at your place. If and when I need one this who I'm using.
Chip, It's not worth making your rate go up to save money on a windshield. Pay full price and save in the long run.

to be honest I've never eard of a windsheild for as cheap as 100. and i was looking for one for my 1969 vw beetle. very small , flat , common as all heck windsheild and it was gonna be about 150.00

cheapest windsheild i've ever had replaced was 140.00

200-300 is normal for most newer stress bearing windsheilds at least in my recent experience with my old supra, my bmw , and my sisters corolla.

south carolina has a free windshield replacement clause, once a year you can get your windshield replaced for free, i think its all insurance companys that do it in SC too, might want to check in with that and see if your state is similar...

FLA has similar , if the windshield get's damaged in any way, insurance replaces it, no deductible...... no charge.
Although to get an OEM rather than a Safelite or other aftermarket, it costs me an additional $7.50 per yr. on my insurance.
It's just me, but I'm more comfortable with OEM pieces.

Seriously, did you think about this before you posted? Show my any piece of plastic that doesnt scratch the first time you wash it. Not to mention it is softer then glass, which means all the little pieces of sand will either embed themselves or scratch the living hell out of the piece. Now lets talk safety. Suppose you or your loved one was sitting in the passenger seat and didnt have their seat belt on and you hit the breaks. Now rather then the propper windshield giving and taking the bulk of the force of their face hitting it .. its now with plastic that doesnt have any give ... and breaks into shards the size of small countries and cuts their throats.

Forgive me for flaming .. i just wish people would think when it comes to common sense and their safety.

As far as windshield replacement. Contact your insurance company and inquire if you are covered for windshield replacement. I didnt know until i asked last year and had mine xBs replaced .... twice! The first time was with a SafeLite windshield ... and that had a stress fracture in under a day. They then replaced it with a PPG. Now my current windshield has 3 hits in it, but no cracks. I plan on replacing it again in the early spring, after i go through the winter here with the road salt and sand. From talking with others the PPG has great durabillity and generally has hits over cracks. I can replace it as many times as it takes and it wont affect my insurance.

out of pocket i was told the PPG was around $300.
Make sure that when you do have the glass replaced, you have the rubber gasket replaced as well. If not you will have water leaks. If they give you crap about the cost, order one youself, i think they run about $30.

I used them for my windshield replacement. They did a great job and came to me rather than having to take the car in.

I'll be on my 9th windshield this week since january, and PPG is the best you can get oe sucks, I keep getting crappy installs though, atleast the new glass company is willing to fix it, the last one (glass pro, where the only thing they are pros at is fing up your car) after number 6 they used TAR to install the 7th one

my PPG glass cost over $600 before taxes and that was with a discount, and NOT installed

Glad to see others using this fine company. Their glass is far superior to OEM. I've used them twice for my expedite van windshields with great results. The first one went for over 300K on the road and is still in service locally. The next one is still in service with 200K on it with only one rockchip repair that is still holding up.

well I called around and was able to find a windshield for about $125 and install was just the coast of the sealant, b/c I have a family friend that does windshield repairs. I could have gotten it a little cheaper if I had gone through him with him being able to get it at wholesale, but I did not have time to wait. So I bought retail. all in all I spent about $140 .

Are you blind .. or do you have the education of a 2nd grader? It cleaerly states on your *cough*cough* site that the windshields are for NHRA classified cars you dumb _ss. Unless your name is Rado and you drive your car 1/4 mile at a time you are not NHRA.

PS ... if you can not read this ... then maybe you should get a tutor to help you out.

BTW ... NHRA cars do not have windshield wipers to smear the bugs and rock and rubber into the plastic windshields.

[quote="bB2NER"]Their glass is far superior to OEM. /quote]

Our local place says they meet oem standards, won't say they are far superior.
