Default Piping Color?

ok SOOOO i just took my car to the local tuning shop and aside from checking everything and dynoing the car, they are going to powdercoat my pipes.

i have a Nautical blue tc and was hoping to get your opinions on what color piping would look good. that want to do a wrinkled flat black or something.... im just not sure if that would look good in a dark blue cars engine bay.... hmmmm

anywyas let me know what you think please.. whether thats going with a different color OR staying with the flat black they picked out.... (please pick a coupler color to match the scheme)

shooo... glad i got that over with.

I wouldn't mind a flat black. Pick a color that you could accent well in the engine bay. a peralessence purple came to my mind real quick just because you don't see it to much. I'd have to find a picture of the purple i'm talking about. Ahem, when in doubt I say black.

Could we get a picture of the engine bay? That may help some.

Thank you. I'll try to check the color match, however your piping will not be near the actual car color, so it doesn't need to be perfect.

I'm not a huge fan of textured finishes on piping, especially piping that is prone to heat soak because of the thickness of the powder required; I definitely wouldn't suggest doing your strut brace in a textured finish. Black chrome has mixed results as it depend on how your powder coater does it. Sometimes it comes out as a dark chrome, other times it comes out as a mirror-finish black... it really depends on the base color whether you keep your pipes polished or they powder coat them "near chrome" before applying a translucent top coat. Either way, it would look cool on the pipes.

Your powder coater should have some samples even if it's just color chips in a book; if they do 'black chrome", then they should definitely have a metal sample for you to see. All of the powder manufactures (i.e. NIC Prismatic, Tiger Drylac, etc.) offer color samples your powder coater should have or should be able to get a hold of. From my limited experience, I have found that Prismatic has a wide variety: http://www.nicindustries.com/prismatic_powders.php

I'm in the process of having a few parts powder coated right now (the valve cover was the first), so I'm getting quite an education on the process and what colors are available. Unfortunately, some of it is a leap of faith (like my valve cover) because this isn't like paint where they can computer match what color your want. The key is dealing with a really good powder coater that is willing to work with your through the entire process.
