Default Life Updates

It has been sort a slow here lately. I'm guilty of not posting myself.

What's doin' in your life currently?

I've started preparing my house so we can put it on the market in January. Yes, it IS that trashed to where we need to start fixing it up in October, lol. I've been patching holes (yes, we had three), repainting kitchen cabinets and walls and donating like a fool. We also rented a storage unit to put access stuff in so our house is uncluttered.

After the home sale, we'll be moving to Wisconsin where all my inlaws are. Besides the larger family and better schools, we'll also be able to afford a mansion there, lol, as house prices are shockingly low there. The best thing is that wages out there really aren't that much lower out there too! I have my eye on this very nice 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 3000+ sq ft home with .5 acres and a hot tub and a finished basement for... are you sitting down? For 175k. We hope to bring around 40-50k as a down payment from the sale of our house too.

The boys are doing good. Well, the oldest one isn't. He's sitting at the dinner table right now with his homework, glaring at me, because I dug through his backpack and found out he has been lying to me about not having homework. Supposedly I'm supposed to just sit here and be oblivious to his schooling and never make him do school work. Oh, and I supposed he's a little angry about me making him do last week's work that he says he can't get credit for since it's late. Tough poo, eh? Muaahahhaa!

So that's what's doin' at my house. How 'bouts you?

Me? oh, I've cut back on the alcohol intake now that school is in session. I'm down to drinking after school, dinner time and about 2 hours before bed (any later than that and I can't make it all the way through the night without a full bladder issue).

Hunting season started and ended opening day with two bucks (3-points) at the locker getting packaged. This was a major bummer because it's my only real hobby and it was one whole day long. Such is life.

Currently my attention has turned to our Jeep and getting a plan going on it. Although all the upgrades are riding on the sale of my old 4X4, I'm still making grand plans for a tasteful lift, new wheels/tires, dechroming, bumpers front and rear and a few other simple upgrades that will smooth out a few of the rough OEM parts (damn domestic crappily made vehicles).

My family is doing great and all. Daughter is in school and the wife is supporting my drinking/smoking/auto habits with only a few complaints in the morning a few in the afternoon and then some just before bed. There may be more, but I found my ear-plugs a couple weeks ago, so I haven't heard near as much as I normally do.

I'm not planning on moving anytime soon, nor move anyone into my house. I suggested getting a tennant to my wife the other day, but got shot down when I was looking through the personals for single women hoping to find one that needed "cheap rent".

I'm also not taking a damn vacation to Hawaii anytime soon!.. I'm going to suffer through this gloomy PNW winter just like everyone else around here. I'm going to make it through without a case of SAD or a Bi-Polar episode that puts me on the 6-oclock news.

That's about it for me.... It's almost 5, so I've gotta go break into the half-rack I bought two days ago and show it who's daddy.

Ahh, my first post in a month, where to begin..

I've returned to school, full-time once agian, and am getting my ___ handed to me in one of my reading-heavy classes. Funny...I used to enjoy reading as a kid - I despise it now.

I'm also working full time as a patrol officer with the housing authority - I'm basically the guardian of a section 8/subsidized/mixed-income housing development for 40 hours a week in probably the worst part of Seattle, just a couple miles north of White Center. I hit my 3 month anniversary there tomorrow. I'm also continuing my part-time IT work in Redmond.

So yeah, you could say I'm kind of a busy guy nowadays.

I wish I had originally picked a school more south....like California. After my 8-month summer this year (mostly out of the country), I am starting to remember how much I absolutely hate living in Washington between October-April. Too late now..gotta stick it out until 2010.

Edit: Forgot to mention something else that's new. Now that all of my money is going into paying off my loans and credit cards before next summer (my next travel excursion), I've started learning how to live like a real, broke, college student. Things like learning to live without expanded cable tv, not eating out everyday or going out every weekend, and learning to enjoy lentils, pasta, and rice in bulk....etc. And here I thought college was supposed to be fun.

Lentils, pasta and rice are good...

Been kind of scarce here on ScionLife for a bit - very few posts, and very little "moderation activity" - partly because some of the mod tools are currently broken and partly because I've been split in several different directions because of both other on-line commitments, and Real_Life® intruding on my on-line time...

Attempting to sell my mum's Scion right now - she loves her faithful Salsa xA, but it is, sadly, time for her to hang up her keys.

Just got some new cellphones, and some new services - one of them being a full GPS nav system built into one of the phones. Amazing little system.

Been straightening up, fixing up and cleaning up the apartment. The outside was just fully painted, and our carpets were just cleaned. Somewhere in the 'office' is a bunch of stuff I should be doing, including distributing the last of the old ScionLife stickers, but they, like many other things, are several layers down in the things in temp storage in there right now.

Didn't make it to Montana this past summer like I wanted to, had a decent time at the "Exposed '07" cruise in Portland, canceled my reservation at the Seattle Exposed mostly because of the parking situation - no need to recount that here, you probably saw it in my blog.

Beyond that, things are just "normal" or as close to that as things ever get here.

Wow nothing as exciting as buying a house in my life jeez. Good luck on that Jenna it sounds like a great move!

I posted about our new things awhile ago but heres a recap.

A few weeks ago I went out and got a puppy for Erik and I and we love her dearly. She is sooooo smart! She was born June 29th so she's still just a baby and she already knows her name (Sheila) no, down, stop, good dog, outside, walk, roll over, come and we're working on sit. She is the perfect addition to our little family and brightens our days. She has one ear that stands all the way up now and the other one still flops, it's adorable!

I also got a 2008 tC because I found myself on the market and after looking at all the different cars couldn't find anything I liked as much, Erik ALMOST talked me into a Honda.... but I pulled back at the last minute and went running back to Lake City Scion. I'm in the proccess of putting a few goodies on the tC and it's loads of fun.

I sprained my ankle last week and then came down with a horrible cold that took my fever over 100 and didn't let me out of bed Much better now, just trying to figure out how many more boxes of tissue I'm going to go through and now Erik has the sniffels

I am done with cancer and all the infections and crap and am now starting physical therapy in the next few days to rebuild some muscle and get energy back hooray! The dog has been great too because every day when I get home from work I take her for a walk and I'm getting to the point where I can keep up with her!

I started a new job at Microsoft and every day I love it a little more I've been here for over a month and a half now and I haven't enjoyed any job more, this one challenges me all day and never gets borring and I keep busy enough

ok I'm pretty sure that's all that's new with me

Adorian, I didn't know you had had cancer. I'm glad to hear you're done with it though. And if you're okay with it, I'd like to hear more about that.

Song0330, I loved reading your travel blog! I WON'T be traveling to India anytime soon, lol.

The rest of you, it's nice to hear what's going on in your life!

"In India, 'cold weather' is merely a conventional phrase and has come into use through the necessity of having some way to distinguish between weather which will melt a brass door-**** and weather which will only make it mushy."

i guess I'll weigh in seeing as how I hardly post anymore....

I still work for Griots, they have me bouncing all over the US lately doing shows and demos, Gabi is opening her first cafe so we've been pretty busy with that too. I started my detailing business up again and my mom and dad started a new company that I've been consulting for and doing a lot of trial and error stuff for.

Bought the starlet, bought the truck, havent really done much else to the Scion... almost traded it in....almost... ;)

Trying to survive working 60+ hours a week between what seems like 500 jobs....

Gotta make that money so I can retire someday.....

Wow, ok, still working on the house, will always be, lol. Working long hours at work and sleeping little. Kids are doing great, wife is doing great, working hard too, Gracie is going thru some eye problems, has eyelashes growing in towards eyes causing irritation, may need cyro surgery to fix, using eyedrops now to help. Sharena is playing soccer, so my Sats. are spent at the fields, camera in hand, cheering them on.
Dustin, your young, work it while you can, i'm trying to do the same on one job, 8 to 16 hours a day, 5 to 7 days a week, lol, getting hard to do anymore.

I have some more to add. Rob, that eyelash thing made my eyes itch, poor baby! And congrats to Gabi and the cafe... that's pretty neat!.

My middle son, Riley, is now in speech therapy. For the past 3 years, he has been breathing oddly while talking. It's like he didn't know when to breathe or would gasp for air. This problem made conversations difficult and we thought it was everything from being too excited while talking to asthma. Many different doctor's visits and no answers.

This past summer, his speech has been deplorable. More with the breathing/sighing/gasping and now repeating words, syllables and even short phrases. He has even started giving up, mid sentence, due to not being able to get out a thought. He'll sometimes have an extremely difficult time speaking or just with moderate difficulty.

So we now have him in with the speech therapist. The breathing thing IS part of stuttering and it is normal for that to come first.

He took a few fluency tests. I was there and while he was speaking better than usual, he got a 8.2% disfluency score. I can't imagine what it'd be if he had been speaking at his worst. 2% or less is normal, 2%-5% is mild and 5% to 10% is moderate and 10%+ is severe. But even if he was to score higher than 10%, he probably wouldn't be classified as severe as he doesn't have facial tension while talking. Although, it's something that *could* develop and hopefully this speech therapy will keep that from happening.

Given his age, it won't be as easy to fix. If he was a younger child, he could of grown out of it. If we had found out he needed speech therapy, at the onset of this, it would of been caught enough in time to where his chances of overcoming it would of been great.

So I feel like butt. But the pediatrician, allergist and even the school's speech therapist didn't catch it either since it was just the breathing thing.

Red, I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm glad to hear the prognosis is good though.

(Cory just laughed at the "divit in her hooter" comment - he's going to hell)
