Default Guage Placement/Wiring????

Hey guys,

For those of you who dont have guagepods for the side panels.

Or like if you have them mounted on top of your dash or something like that.

How do you have it setup? Where are the wires ran threw the car?

Im trying to figure out where Im going to put the AFR Gauge, I would like to put it onmy dash, but the wires will be sticking out everywhere.

Can you guys show me some pics of how your gauges or where did you run your wires etc....

Can someone show me where or how to tap the dimmer swtich for power?

And my last question is.

If I know what im doing.....could I just drill a hole in my s pipe next to the 2nd o2 sensor and make a thread and then screw the wideband in?

i drilled a hole in my dash and ran the wires through the firewall by going past the glovebox and through the hole where the ECU wires go through thr firewall.
except for 1 wire which went to the ignition fuse near the steering wheel.

Nice layout Mr Meaty! ATI pod huh? I always liked that unit a lot.

Firestorm... You signed off before I could answer your last question explaining what the AEM wiring colors are for the wideband guage...

Here it is:

DezodJoe (10:40:44 AM): red is +12VDC
DezodJoe (10:40:48 AM): black is ground
DezodJoe (10:40:58 AM): blue is serial (connects to an RS-232 port for hyper-terminal data logging) - not required for gauge to workl
DezodJoe (10:41:20 AM): white is the analog output (0-5v) used for other devices (not required for gauge to work)

^ there has got to be a more "stealth" way to hook up gauges... but I guess once I go F/I, then I can comment.

depends on what gauges you want and how visible you want them.
The zietronics unit stashes in the cubby behind the shifter and it reads boost, AFR, lamda, etc. all at once.

Thanks Joe!
It's great, and pefectly in view where I want it!
2 other boosted tCs in vegas here like it as well, so that's what they got!

Sure there are more stealthy ways but how difficult would it be to see them and focus on the road? I always put mine up top or as close ot the road line as possible. It's the safest way to drive/race if you need to be monitoring your gauges on a more consistant basis.

If you're trying to hide it, you could always do a drop down glove-box install.

Or move your stereo to the glove box and put your gauges there. Or like some, put the gauges IN the center air vents (not an option in Vegas!)
There are lots of options. I like the ATI gauge pod because the shape, design, location and even the texture make it look like it's stock. I've been pulled over twice and the cops have not given my gauges a second thought.
In fact, they both said I had a hot little car!

Think about it...what factory turboed car has gauges in the A-piller? none. the Evo and STI don't come with all gauges, but if you get their optional gauge upgrade packages, they put them right in the center of the dash, where they should be.

no, i think i stated what i said wrong. what i meant was the way meaty's wires were. Meaty, could you have made the hole where the wires are going through closer to the pod, and maybe run the wires under the pod so they aren't seen? i don't know what the pod looks like under, but if there is an opening, you could place the pod over the hole you create, run the wires through there to the gauges, and then they would be hidden. it's just a thought. but that's what i meant by what i said. I was in no way saying anything bad about meaty's setup.
and mr. dezod, you are right, i believe they should be in a place where they are easily viewed. and that gauge pod does just that. i just worded my statement wrong.

That is exactly how my setup is!
The first shot is the wires without the pod.
The second shot is the pod mounted, with the wiered underneath. You do not see any wires.
Here's a couple more pics to explain:

this is the underside of the pod with the bottom pannel removed. We left it off so it would fit better.

^ Thanks Meaty. I had seen other people have wires sticking out near the windshield. that's how i thought your setup was. but i stand corrected. that actually looks pretty sweet. i'm liking that gauge pod now...

Oh, yeah. If you don't wanna drill you dash, there is a hole in the back where you can routh the wires out, then run them allong the dash.
so then you can punch them into the a-piller. That way , if you need to go back to stock (why?), you just replace an a-piller, not your whole dash.

I think he said he was gonna drill the hole. He just didn't know if hte ATI pod would cover it, or if the hole was beside it or something.
He has't seen the pod in person, so he didn't know, i guess.

2 much: go look in the "turbo pics" thread in my sig. Lots of stuff on the first page and the second to the last, like page 30somethign!

Yeah, far right from behind. So when you are looking at the fronts, the wideband is the closest to you. Oil pressure furthest and boost in the center.

I wanted AFR closest to me, but I really only did the others that way caue the AEM logo on the boost controller is on top, the others are at the bottom, so I wanted it to be symetrical...purely asthetic...you can see in the pic at the top of the thred.

Which boost gauge did you get, and what is your third gague?
