As you may know, nobody online had listed the 2008 xD on their site in order to determine which wheels fit the car. You just had to KNOW. And unfortunately, there was no info in the owner's manual and even the dealer's didn't seem to know.

Well... I contacted Scion and here is their reply:

The 2008 xD has the following wheel specifications: wheel offset is 42mm; bolt pattern is 5x100 mm; and aspect ratio on the stock tires is 60.



Now... I also convinced an online wheel dealer to list the xD on their site since no one else was doing so... and I wanted to buy wheels from them.

I'm happy to report that they just listed the xD, and have very good prices. I'll be placing my order in the next few days.

I have no connection to this site. I only mention it here because as anyone can see from my postings under another topic, I was going nuts trying to find these wheels. Scion charges a crazy amount for decent wheels. I didn't want to pay almost $2000 for wheels so I looked online at all the sites I could find and nobody listed the car because it is so new. The good people at ElementWheels.com contacted Scion and got the info. :clap: I contacted Scion too and confirmed it.

Hey, thanks a lot for the info- I for one can use it, as I'm gonna be looking to sell a set of steel rims. Now, does anyone want to take the time to explain what aspect ratio, offset and bolt pattern mean? :bow:

Aspect ratio is the ratio of tire width to the height of the sidewall. A lower number means a lower profile tire.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the true centerline of the rim. A positive offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is positioned in front of the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This in effect brings the tire in to the fender well more. Conversely, a negative offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is behind the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This will cause the tire to stick out away from the vehicle.

The bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns can be 4, 5, 6, or 8 lug holes. A bolt circle of 4x100 would indicate a 4 lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 100mm.

xD's OEM 16" steelies are 6" wide and have 39mm offset, 18" optional TRD wheels are 7.5" wide and have 42mm offset.

Looks like with a standard 17x7 wheel you can get away with 35mm offset without making your tire contact the fender under full strut compression.

If you keep this in mind it should be easy to pick out wheels from any online retailer. If offset is 45 or higher it will look pretty nasty (in my opinion), because the wheel will look tucked in too deep (unless you run an 8" wide rim, of course.

Some sites have offset calculators that are very simple yet handy - 1010tires has one for example.

Now I'm confused again- is the offset on the xD 16" steelies 39mm or 42mm??

16" 39mm for steelies, 42 for 18" TRD wheels.

It's in the service manual / New Car Features. I guess I should post a PDF somewhere.

My gf would like to put the rims I had on my tc on her xd. The tc required hub spacers on the rear for them to fit(17x7.5), anyone know if these will be necessary or will I have to contact discount tire or someone to find out? Thanks.

So if you were to get a different 16 inch wheel with a offset of 40mm, that would be ok? I want to keep the mpg in good shape so I'm thinking if I go with another 16 inch wheel that weights less about 17.5 lbs and a 205/55/16 tire, I'll still be getting the best mpg. But I don't know much about wheels/tires really. I don't care about looks as much as mpg.

My wheel + tire weigh about 41-42lbs combined and I can still squeeze out 39 real mpg (42-43 on the gauge). I wonder how far you can go with 16lbs wheels...

I just put on 17"x7" with 38mm offset and 235/45/17 tires with no problems at all. Does not rub. Wheels do not stick out, but aren't as tucked in as before for increased asthetics. I know it is a pretty wide tire for a 7" wide wheel, but the guys at Discount assured me that it was a comon practice and their computers fitment guide went as narrow as 6.5" and the sidewall does not appear bowed hardly at all. Speedo shows 70 and GPS bounces between 71 and 72.

Tirerack.com has a decent selecton of wheels that fit, tell the weights, specs, and show a pic of the wheels on your car.

what if you lower the car? do trd springs stiffen up enough so that you can put on wheel that would fit the stock ride?
