I was driving home in my 2004 xB, just minding my own business when I slowly came upon a new 350Z. Just as I began to pass him (he was going 35, I was doing 40), he FLOORS his car and takes off like a bat out of hell. He then slows down again, I maintained the same speed, and when I was next to him, he redlines it again and takes off. :loser:

This guy was driving absolutely normal, in a $30k+ sports car, and he sees a $15k Scion xB and is compelled to remind himself (and apparently me) of the awesome performance of his car...

Do I care? No. But it's funny. This type of thing happens all the time. It just made me laugh to think that I own a cheap economy car that somehow has the power to make people change the way they're driving as soon as they see it. :silly: They suddenly have to justify their car buying decision, I guess.

The psychological influence of the xB is amazing.

I love how since my tC is modified, everyone and their brother thinks I want to race. I can't go through town without cars revving at me at the lights, then making asses of themselves by just flooring it when the light turns green...i just don't get it

Yeah, I run into those a lot as well, but I usually ignore them, even when it happens to be a old rusted civic with a huge cooling tower as a exhaust.

A lot of people buy cars like 350Z because they are insecure with themself or something, and they feel the need to prove something. What do you expect, they are just born "small" and are "fast" in all dimensions. Same goes for those little tweetie people driving huge lifted trucks. Sure, they think they are mean and mighty when they are in their cars, but we live in a world where you are not in your car most of the time.

Being a recreational bodybuilder, I love seeing how when I run into those same people in the halls and they won't even lift their head.

At the end of the day, they are still the same small, insecure people that are rubbish at work and useless in bed.

Funny, just the opposite thing happened to me Friday night on the way back from a local car show.
I was driving my '73 Mach I, and an xB pulled up next to me at a light. When it turned green he floored it away - I kind of laughed. Then he slowed down and waited for me to catch up, then did it again! He had (at least) an exhaust on it, but come on!! :silly:
If I didn't own a Box myself, it probably wouldn't have been so hilarious! :nope:

I had one of those encounters too. I was in the city and a TL pulls up to me. When the light changed, I went, but apparently quicker than he expected... I get to the next light and he's all hot and bothered, he floors it and is easily going 30 over the limit. Then I pulled up to the same light and started laughing.

I also have a neighbor who owns a big Hemi truck with an exhaust. He drives normal all the time unless I'm in the alley washing my car, then he suddenly feels the need to do burn-outs as he leaves his garage. Makes absolutely no sense.

I can't keep the honda's and tiburon's away from me. The most recent one was a White Merceded CLS with a sport package, body kit, and 20" chrome rims started antagonizing my tC and my friends tC. We decided to accelerate with him on an open interstate and left him behind us several times. It's alway fun to put a car to shame that spent $67,000 on the car and who knows what for the other crap. I know street racing is highly frowned upon, but this was done on an interstated 3 lanes wide and that there weren't any other cars in sight and began at a 40mph roll. Ahh nevermind...haters will flame.

its happened to me in my tC, but only after I changed my stock hood to my C/F hood.

See for over a year I was "stock" with my S/C, and on the exterior I looked like every other tC out there ( and i liked it that way ) but due to a twist of fate, I was forced to get a new hood, and then all of a sudden I had cars "throwing revs" at me or trying to race me.... funny how a C/F hood can make people act that way. ( Only reason why I got a C/F hood was that it was going to cost the same as an OEM hood painted CSM )

I run just a hair slower than stock manual 350Z's with a decent driver. The big ___ chrome wheels on the CLS were apparently an issue for him and he may have been an automatic, but he did take the time to slow from 85 down to 40 and accelerate to 120 before slowing to 40 again. Plenty of witnesses that were caravaning behind us because we just left a show. Yes that car has 40 more hp and 22lb more torque than I do, but it also weighs 1100lbs more and is adding maybe 25lbs per wheel to the lag in acceleration.

When I was in California, I used to get the honda guys trying to race me all the time- but now that Im in Michigan, I get all of these guys in their monster trucks revving really loud and cutting me off. ...I also constantly have some idiot, with like 3 teeth in his head, at gas stations yelling "Where do you put the rice in?!".
I don't really care, but it is funny how people can be so bothered by a vehicle that is smaller than one of the wheels on their f-150.

Sponsored by Loki Motorsports (local). Can get you set up if you want some power adder. The owner has an xB with a custom direct port system capable of a 300 shot but the engine isn't anywhere close to being able to handle that at this point. He has hooked up several xb's though that are low to mid 14's in the 1/4.

Where I go to school, the freeways are a little more winding than usual and the exits have sharp curves. I usually just overtake the morons going fast in a straight and having to slow down at the sharp exit curve going onto the next freeway. It funny because I usually overtake cars like that on a sharp curve then able to get away due to the exit speed. But I do get the car that goes next to me then accelerates..

This thread make me laugh.. I dont street race and i dont support those who do so a month a go when i got to watch a mitsu Eclipse plow in to a car carier truck as it was stop on the road unloading i had a good laugh.

He was racing a civic and must not have seen it comming. PLOW right in to it. The civic just kept going and never came back.

My self and others stop and made sure the kid was alright. He was. His biggest prob was he wrecked his car and said his parents just bought it for him 3 month prior.

LOL LOL LOL. The worst thing is i dont think he learned any lesson and i am sure he will be back at it again soon.

As for the guy who he was racing i will say i am pretty disgusted with the fact the did not stop to make sure the other guy was ok.

HOLLY ____ people some one could have and buy all means should have died and you did not even stop to make he was ok. Thats pretty sad.

Everyone in the VACAVILLE/FAIRFIELD, CA area with EVOS always try to race me too. They are friggin retarded because I know its an easy win for them. One time a dude in a RED EVO stopped next to me, revved his engine, then he launched hella quick, obviously beating me. Then he hit the next light and I lined up next to him. I opened my window , his window also open, and told him in a laughing manner"if you had balls you would race your own Kind (type of car) not a car you know you can beat. " Obviously I ____ed him off because he just cruised next to me looking at me hella funny like he was going to hit me.

Last night I had some jackass in a Blue Sentra SER try to race me down the street towards my friends house. I don't think he knew that there was construction going on which made it a one-lane street. He got next to me and was revving up his engine, you could hear this guy's coffee-can muffler from miles, anyways he is flashing his high beams on and off and just being an idiot. I was in the right lane (the left lane closes about halfway down the street due to the construction) and I started to accelerate, as did he but he obviously didn't know his lane ends and all I see in my rear view mirror is cones flying in the air and him swerving....good thing there were no other cars around. People like that ____ me off. :loser:

The same thing happened today when I was coming home from work. Instead of a 350Z, it was an STi. It totally smoked me of course, and I could hear its blow off valve and everything so in the very least, he had that coolness factor going for him. I caught up to him at the next light and I hollered out the window "Hey that's a nice car", he smiles and raced off at a godlike speed when it turned green

So im riding on the interstate and i see in my mirrors that there is a pretty nice 350z speedin up behind me. Im in the center lane and when he got up beside me he slowed down and told me to roll down my window. It was a highschool kid and his friend. He asked me to race and i simply laughed at his stupidity, shook my head no, rolled up the window, and continued drivin at 70 mph.

I guese he was intimidated by $18000 car that was pretty much stock at the time. If he wanted a race he should have tried to race my friend in his g35 that was a few cars back. I guese he was just scared of the G and had to try to show his man hood on a slower car.

I always get Honda's and other imports revving at me when when I'm out in the xB, I guess since I have rims and an exhaust they think I want to play. The other day I had a ratted/riced out red mid 90's 4 door Civic with a badly fitting fart cannon try and race me in stop and go traffic when I was on my way to work, I mean the fastest he could have gotten up to was maybe 30 before he rear ended someone.

It's kind of funny really because people are completely different when I'm driving my SS Camaro, nobody ever really tries to race me and the idiots who would normally try to cut me off stay away. When I first got the xB it was driving me nuts how differently people treated the box, now I've just gotten used to it.

My girlfriend has a 2006 sonata (235hp)-when she rides in my car she asks if the hamsters can go any faster-used to kind of bother me.

I have driven light, small perf cars most of my life and to have any sort of chance in beating people you just have to use your head.

On my daily commute there are 3 lights in a row before the highway entrance. The first one people try to pull up and race. I play along to the second light and then we wait together, then I rev slightly, let them get the jump and then I drive 26 mph to the last light as they get there and stop, tripping the light to change-I glide right through accelerating (timed the lights) and hit the bottom of the entrance at 35 (as they are just starting to roll) and I end up way ahead as they drive insanely to try to catch me. I merge at 55 and am like 3-8 cars ahead and they can't catch up in the next 2 miles until I turn off due to traffic.

Basically one guy in an STi had enough that he got me (like that's not an obvious difference) but even one guy in an older 911 still didn't catch me-I'll bet his girlfriend that was with him was not impressed.....

I wonder if it would be funny to just smoke up the tires without a lot of engine noise or even funnier if the hubcaps would spin and you could blow smoke out the wheel wells without acutally spinning the tires as a sort of fake out then do a little air lift on the suspension like you are power braking it all without moving an inch.
Better yet this is where you need the 2000 watt sound system with the jet engine sound track then going afterburner.

Where I live there kid with a Ion Redline, when ever I am in my xB he is trying to race me. That car has double the power, of course it is going to beat me. One day I was out in my other car, 1999 Carmaro SS with a little more than the 320 horse claimed by chevy and happened to pull up next to him, I gave the car a little rev, trust me you can hear it (thanks SLP) and he was acting like he couldn't see me. I don't race on the streets, I was giving this kid crap, I hope he realized how annoying it is when a faster car is trying to prove something to you.

Nice choice in cars :) my DD is the xB and my toy is a '00 Camaro SS and I've been in almost the exact same situation as you before.

My little run in with that red 4-door civic that I mentioned in my previous post wasn't my only one, another time I saw him when I was in the SS he wouldn't even look my way. My car is loud as well(Magnaflow/SLP y-pipe) so I know he heard me when I got on it a little to mess with him because of our previous encounter. I don't race on the streets either, too much of a risk of getting in an accident and injuring/killing an innocent bystander, kids like that really ____ me off.

I can picture these same ricers on their forums writing about all these people in Mustangs and Camaros trying to race them at lights.

only difference, in their forums they are talking about how it was a close race and they lost just barely, they were able to hang on the rear door...

What is fun however is when another tC pulls up to a red light next to you. No traffic, late at night...time to have some fun :)

Boy, am I glad I don't live closer to some of you guys, with all the B.S. flying around! :lalala:
First a guy says he smoked a Mercedes CLS with a mildly modded Box, now this:

funny you mention this. It happened to me today on the way home. This brand new mazda3 goes 70 in a 45 out of the light and looks at me as though "ya im cool". sooooooooooooo being the young retard i am next light i smoked him :lalala: . Once i hit 60, he i stopped and he keep to about 80 .........and a cop was down the street. Wonder how that ticket is gonna taste  .

Even a base Mazda 3 does 0-60 in 7.3, vs. an xB at 10.6! :P
(These specific numbers from car and driver mag. Your numbers may vary - but not enough to make up an over 3 second deficit! :silly: )

His profile says he drives a tC.

I don't think this thread pertains to the tC. No hating on them. Just curious why tC owners are jumping in on this discussion?

Maybe they feel that fast cars hate them too...

My run-in with punks in a 350Z was funny. We were in traffic and the driver starts taunting me out the window. You're driving a shoebox, etc. stupid stuff. He would accel but wasn't bright enough to look ahead so he'd get pinned in traffic and I got ahead of them several times with minor lane changes. The guy catches back up with me, we exchanged a few insults and I say "At least I'm not driving my MOM's car." The guy's buddies start cracking up, he starts turning red and I just laughed... Bullseye!!

I've been noticing this too. Maybe it's just city driving, but people are ridiculous about it. I have an '06 xB, I never drive like an idiot, never tailgate if I can help it, but people are absolutely retarded out there around my car. I look out of the rear view mirror and I can't even see headlights and the very top of someone's head.

Trucks are the worst though, especially big ones. It's like the very sight of my xB threatens their manhood so they feel obligated to tailgate the hell out of me then blow by me, then get in front of me and slow down. I mean seriously... what the heck? I don't even drive slow, if anything I usually push my xB over the speed limit about six or seven mph on my way to the city.

You have to loose them on the curves - they don't expect the xB to handle as well as it does and those big pickup trucks flip over really easy - or so I have been told by a friend with an F150.

i like to squeek my tires sometimes, like on a turn, but thats for my own amusement. and when i go behind a 7/11 i floor it, because im between 2 walls so its cool to hear the engine. other than that? its no use to race, considering how usually i got like 2 friends in the car. i dont like it when people tailgate me... so i slow down and then floor it away, but i never like to floor it. execpt some random guy in an old camery tore up his tranny and lost in a race against me.. XD fun times!

Can't say I've ever been revved on at a light. I will have people who see me cruising on the interstate, pass me, cut me off and then slow down. I of course then pass them while maintaining speed, but sometimes if traffic is heavier I may mess with them. Once I pass, I'll then proceed to move ahead in the traffic line like a checkers piece moving downfield then laugh as they try to catch up and get stuck behind slow cars in both lanes. I love how speed means nothing when I can fit in half the space of another vehicle when I need to pass someone.

quick story, sorta...

I was getting on the highway minding my own business, sitting stopped in traffic none-the-less on the on-ramp lane. As a biker probably a 600 came up beside me, slowed down and revved at me and mean mugged me then kept going. But the absolute hilarious part about the situation was all of the little details... His bike had a completely stock exhaust (which sounded less than intimidating), his helmet was about 4 sizes too big, and he didn't know how to rev at me so he just pulled in his clutch and let it rev, and then he just let the clutch go. But he let it go too fast and the bike bucked and he almost went over the bars    and then once he got started moving he almost layed it down because it was wobbling so much. Me and my buddy laughed for about 10 minutes at that moron.

Its really hilarious how these morons think! I always see people tailgating me and its funny because of rather than taking off I slow down. Probably the most funniest thing is that they are always older hondas with trashcan sized exhausts and have their cars primer painted with the worst sounding stereos!
