Default So used to the xB...

So I've had my box now for a little over a year and a half... I drive the average amount of miles (8k this year so far)...

I am so used to driving the xB - especially here in the city (nyc). It's so small and manuverable, i never have a problem with parking, it handles so well, etc etc etc... I am afraid that, down the road, i would only buy my next car if it is similar to the xb! In terms of size and everything...i seriously can not stand driving anything larger now... i have an h2 which i absolutely hate driving now!

are any of you on the same boat? do you want your next car to be similar to the xb (gen 1)? I don't want to get a larger car because then i would not be able to fit into the parking spots i do now, move around on the streets with the ease that i do with the box... i duno... i honestly think this is the most perfect car for city use it's not even funny. the xB and the mini (which is like friggin 25k) - both for the size....

Yup...

I've even rolled in a Fit and a Yaris but it's just not the same. The xB is small and nimble, yet has tons of headroom and legroom. You sit high up like a small SUV, even though the car is low to the ground. All the huge windows give a "glasshouse" effect and allow you to see in all directions with no blindspots.

I feel you, man. This car feels just about right.

I'm laughing at the parallel parking thing... yea, it's small and maneuverable, but I'm so fearful of curbing my wheels that I avoid parallel parking at all costs.

If I ever drive my parents' Prius, I feel really claustrophobic. The ceiling is so low.

Ah, well, no, not really. I mean, I like the xB for its intended purpose, which for me is a commuter and local hauler, but when I'm driving long distance, I really love the Camry SE V6 that will get up and GO on the freeways and around the cities where speeds are higher. It's also more roomy, quieter, smoother, and more luxurious, so I feel less exhausted after a day of driving . . . .

Then when I'm back home and needing to commute to and from work and pick up stuff for projects and drive about the kewlest set of wheels in the area, I become a huge xB fan again . . . and I realize then that if I could only have one car, it would HAVE to be the xB . . . !

Once I pay off the Box, I'm gonna buy a pre-owned Tahoe...
The Tahoe won't be a daily driver though, just a weekend, take the family out hauler...
I do know what you mean though about the xB, definitely a get-around-the-city- easier car!

LOL - Here in Manhatta, either you are one of the few lucky people that can parallel park or you have to park your car at a garage - which costs roughly $20 per hour - something like $50 for 3 hours. I am not made out of money so I always drive around to look for a spot and almost always, i find a spot. There have been times where I pull up at a spot where an SUV is trying to park and then when he/she can't fit, they drive away and the spot is all mine! lol.

with the money you save parking on the street vs parking @ a garage, i can but a set of rims every few months practically. LOLOLOL

Yup. My heaviest car now is 2800 lbs., soaking wet.
Short wheelbase and lightweight is the way to go baby!

Man I don't know about your xB buy mine doesn't turn that sharp. I have a friend driveway that does a 180 into the basement 2 door garage and the Geo I had would make the inside stall and the xB can barely make the outside stall. Other than that yeah it parks great just use the remote control on the right mirror and crank it down when you parallel park - you can see the curb and the rear tire easy.

http://www.weparknewyork.com/

I usually park on the Upper East Side so parking for several days is fairly inexpensive. I just did a quick quote for 11 hours, and it ended up being $25.

I usually park on the street if I'm in the city for the day, but one time I parked in my old neighborhood (east village) and locked the keys in my car - and of course I proceeded to 'break into' my car. No one called the cops, and some people offered to help. Makes me worry sometimes...

Agreed. I watch minivans perform tighter U-Turns than my xB. Drives the wife batty, even the tC's turning radius is smaller, though that car feels like twice the size.

To be honest I'm looking foreward to selling my XB. Its been nothing but bad luck. I enjoy driving my 84 VW Rabbit far more. As soon as I get my VW painted and back on the road the XB will be history. My Rabbit gets as good or better milage, has more hp (120hp), and is lighter (1800lbs). This was my first brand new car and I'm pretty sure it will be my last.

That's funny because I had an 80 rabbit and my xB gets better gas milage gives a smoother ride and is way more quiter - Rabbit was so loud that I suffered hearing loss.

I'm not saying it's more refined by no means. My average milage on my XB is 31-33mpgs. I get the same mpgs with my VW. I swapped in a newer GTI motor and installed an overdrive 5th gear to help my fuel economy, that may explain the difference in your experience and mine. Thats one of the things that bothered me about the XB. When I test drove one it was an automatic and in my past experiences manuals usually have lower rpms at cruising speeds on the highway. This was not the case with my XB, it just seems like it could have benifited from a little different gear ratio to keep the rpms down in 5th gear. I'm not trying to sway anyone away from their XB, just stating my opinion.
