Does anyone ACTUALLY think the xB2 is ugly?
So, I've started seeing new TV commercials, print ads, billboards, etc, all with messages like "EYE-CATCHING...EYESORE," and "Pro: boxy. Con: Boxy" implying that there's whole crowds of people somewhere who think the xB2 is agonizingly unattractive. [And I'm not just talkign about the Gen 1 boards, OHHH ZING. ]
My question to the xB2 owners is this: has a single person you've ever met ever actually said the car was ugly? Everyone I've ever met thinks they look like adorable little Rav4 puppies. And that's all I hear from Gen 2 owners about others' reactions: "Oh, you didn't buy the ugly one, did you?! Whew!"
I ask because my Gen 1, even after saturating the nation for almost four years, still routinely gets comments like "OH MY GAWD! WHAT IS THAT THING? IS THAT A CAR?!" I remember when I first bought it, about 2 out of 3 of my loved ones and coworkers stared at it in open-mouthed horror...which is, of course, the reason I bought it in the first place. I've never been comfortable fitting in.
Anyway...am I totally off-base here, or did Scion launch this ad campaign for the wrong generation?

Yeah I agree... I have gotten nothing but awesome comments on my xb2. But they do always say they thought the first one was SO ugly and so forth. I don't think so, I just think the xb2 is much better on all aspects IMO.

I never had too many BAD comments about my XB1. I even overheard people saying they didn't like "those cars" but they liked mine so sometimes it's what you do with it.
I haven't heard any bad comments about the XB2. Everyone that's commented about it likes it and likes it much better than my XB1.
I don't live on what other people think. I do what I like to suit my tastes and needs. If others like it, then great. If not, oh well, it's mine and I did it for me.

Ugly? Absolutely. Beautiful? Definitely. The 2008 xB marketing is genius. The XB is a dichotomy in it's truest sense.
The XB1 illicited a very strong response, positive and negative, from the general public. Many people referred to it as "ugly". The XB2 still holds true to the maxim "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and still gets very strong responses, but they seem to favor the positive more than the XB1.

The only negative commment I got was when I got to the dealership with my dad and he said "that thing!? its ugly!". He quickly changed his mind once we test drove it and he realized how useful it is.
Other than that I have received nothing but nice, positive comments, especially the color choice. Everyone has told me they like this generation much more than the first because the xb1 was way too boxy.

I don't think it's particularly ugly. However, I like it less than the JDM counterpart.

As a matter of preference, I like the Rumion, and think it's better looking, but that doesn't make the Gen2 "ugly".

To me the xB2 lost some of its appeal in the styling dept but gained so much in engine and safety features I just can't ignore that. I don't think it's ugly but I do feel it's more "mainstream" now than before.

When the 1st generation Xb came out people were saying the same thing. That is one ugly car...but after a while it started growing on people. I thing the samething is happenning with the 2nd generation Xb people are not sure. I personally like it way better than my 1st generation. with the better suspension, power, brakes, ect... Im glad I changed.

That's because XB2 is not as unique
Not to offend, but IMO the xB2 doesn't look nearly as unique as the 1st Gen, which is why non-xB owners are much more accepting of it. It's much more styled like any other current model car that has the "rounded-square" edges and whatnot. The xB1 stands out because of that famous box, squared-edge shape and snout. So, yeah, people won't have anything much to consider "ugly" about the xB2. ...except of course, that ridiculous 1 rear reverse light on the back bumper! What is with that? When/if I buy one, one of the first things I would do is buy another light and mod it so there were two
