I actually quit smoking back in June, but for the 4 or 5 months I had the box, and smoked, I never did in the car.

I think it was because I knew I planned to quit this summer and didn't want the car to smell like it later. My last new car (the frontier I traded in on the xB) I did smoke in.

Would I smoke in it now if I were still smoking? Dunno, I hope not. But it only takes one good road trip to break that. :)

No. I smoke an occassional cigar while golfing or drinking. I won't let anyone smoke in my xB. Maybe when its 5 years old.

Since I don't have an xB, I didn't vote on the poll, but I thought I'd add my $.02 here. I have yet to smoke in my tC. I like the new car smell. I also like not having cigarette burns in my car. Someone always drops a lit cigarette, or hits the trim while trying to ash out the window. I also figure that it's easier to never smoke in the car, than to do it occasionally (for me at least). Every time I want to smoke in the car, I tell myself "I haven't done it yet, and I won't start now." Once you do it the first time "occasionally" might become more frequent.

Should say "It reeks of smoke, but as a smoker, I can't smell it..."

I can tell when someone has been in the elevator AFTER having a cig outside, there's no way your car doesn't smell like an ashtray...

If you must smoke however, You better put your butts in the ashtray! If you see peeps throwing them out in CA, call 1-800-TELL-CHP to report them!

I hate when smokers do that. I feel like yelling at them "The World is not your Ashtray!!!!!!!"

On a "lighter" note, I find that the ashtray makes an excellent change holder. I must have $20 in mine.

I agree. I can't stand it when I see someone throwing a cigarette butt out their window. It makes a mess and can start a fire.

Those that smoke don't realize how bad it smells. I know from experience. I smoked for 15 years. I couldn't believe the things I smelled when I quit. I can barely stand to be within 3 feet of someon who's recently smoked a cigarette.

Screw smoking, my ashtray strictly holds a green LED and $2.73 in change.

Yeah, The only thing I smell is smoker's denial!! I can smell a smoking from the second the walk into the store I work at!

My father is in big denial! he has smoked for 30 years, and claims "My lungs are as heathy as a teenagers"

Yeah right!

before i quit (again) a few months ago, i was smoking in my xb. sometimes my interior smelled like smoke, other times it didnt. if i rolled up my windows and parked right after i smoked, then yea of course it smelled. but if i drove for a while afterward, with all the windows down (as i always used to) and THEN parked, it didnt smell.

Yeah if you keep it clean it won't smell. When I do smoke it's always going down the road with a window cracked. Never just sitting still so that smoke can get in it. Yeah some smoke may get in but that can be fixed with a vacuum cleaner and some febreeze. But how am i in denial? I do smoke, I wish I didn't, I wish I never started, I've tried to quit and may one day. But that's not denial. My box may smell like sometimes but that gets fixed. A lot of non-smokers ride in it and they never say it smells like smoke, they always say it smells great.

Glad to see so many people that have quit smoking!!

If you smoke now, and want to quit, please go to http://www.whyquit.com

whyquit.com really helped me out when I was first going through my quit, and reading the articles really helps when you get a craving.

A sample:

How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink.

He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out at a movie or play he says he wants you to go stand in the lobby with him and miss important scenes. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go. Your friend doesn't like your choice of clothing either. Instead of politely telling you that you have lousy taste, he burns little holes in these items so you will want to throw them out. Sometimes, he tires of the furniture and gets rid of it too. Occasionally, he gets really nasty and decides the whole house must go.

He gets pretty expensive to support. Not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. In fact, he will cost you thousands of dollars over your lifetime. And you can count on one thing, he will never pay you a penny in return.

Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun. So he kind of sits on your chest and makes it difficult for you to breathe. Now you don't want to go off and play with other people when you can't breathe, do you?

Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu. Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him which he constantly blows in your face. When you inhale some of them, they wipe out cilia in your lungs which would have helped you prevent these diseases.

But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially likes diseases that slowly cripple you—like emphysema. He considers this disease great. Once he gets you to have this, you will give up all your other friends, family, career goals, activities—everything. You will just sit home and caress him, telling him what a great friend he is while you desperately gasp for air.

But eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. He has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart and lungs. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were too strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later.

Well, this is the story of your "friend," your cigarette. No real friend would do all this to you. Cigarettes are the worst possible enemies you ever had. They are expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and deadly. Consider all this and NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

But anyway, I did smoke in my box for the first few months, even lit one up on the way outta the dealership. Even got a f*&^ing burn hole in my backseat to remind me of it

Back in my wilder days when I rode a motorcycle to work I had a nice way of dealing with this. I'd see someone toss their butt out of their window at a stoplight. Obviously, they did this by accident, so I would helpfully ride up next to them, pick up the butt, say "excuse me, you dropped this!" toss the butt back into their window, and ride on. For some reason, the folks I helped out in this way seemed to be too busy with something on their car's seat or floor to thank me for my help!

Only if you happen to be a smoker. The rest of us can smell it no matter what is used to try and cover it up.

I could never figure out the logic of a smoker who cracks his car windows or holds his cigarette out the window. If he likes the smoke so much, why not keep it in his car?

My father is in big denial! he has smoked for 30 years, and claims "My lungs are as heathy as a teenagers"
That's what my Dad said. Ten years later he died of COPD, slowly suffocating while breathing pure oxygen.

No other non-smokers don't complain either. I don't hold it out the window. I hold it close to it so the smoke will go out the window instead of inside the car.

If I were getting a ride from you I wouldn't complain either. It wouldn't be polite! That doesn't mean that the odor doesn't exist.

Well when other people (non-smokers) tell me that my car smells good and wants to know how I keep it that way when I do smoke in it doesn't that mean something?
