View Full Version : xB unsafe according to GEICO, insurance rates jacked!!!
iKevin 10-12-2007, 08:11 PM Hope you guys have better luck than me. I've been a GEICO customer for almost 10 years, have a flawless driving record, flawless credit history. Just got my policy renewal in the mail . . . . Rates went up $80!!!!
I called and they said it was because the safety rating on my car changed. SAD!
ChampionJeep 10-12-2007, 08:19 PM Maybe it went up because your 104 years old :silly:
That does suck though.
iKevin 10-12-2007, 08:24 PM That was last week . . . This week I got some HGH from Stallone and i'm younger.
daneisthegreatest 10-12-2007, 08:28 PM i dont know how much you are paying with GEICO but i pay $123 a month...
Spider13 10-12-2007, 08:50 PM Hum...wonder why mine didn't go up.
HeathenBrewing 10-12-2007, 08:53 PM Hum...wonder why mine didn't go up.
Same here....just renewed last month and it actually went down...by $8.00. Not much, but at least it didnt go up.
coryjames 10-12-2007, 11:56 PM i have geico and my renewal went down 20 a month hmmmmm
xbox523 10-13-2007, 01:22 AM I have statefarm and I pay $76.52 per month on my 06 xB.
dgenem 10-13-2007, 02:50 AM 01 Corolla + 06 Scion XB, full coverage and $250 deduct.
$112 per month for Geico in Florida. Would be less if I dropped one driver. Allstate has been sending me some incredible offers too that I need to review.
bbscionxb 10-13-2007, 04:08 AM wow i paid 600 bills every 3 monts becouse im under age
GreenLantern 10-13-2007, 04:55 AM 600!!! damn I've got USAA (only for military and dependants) and I pay like $337 for 6 months of full coverage (of course that's a group rate cause of my wifes car (Murano)
jwaj2002 10-13-2007, 06:16 AM I pay $259 per month with a $500 deduct, and its gone down the last month, by $20 from 279, thanks to the rank change on the xb back in january, farm bureau told me that it'll go down next september when I renew before I turn 25, so I'll be paying 200 a month
perfect record no wrecks or tickets
daneisthegreatest 10-13-2007, 07:26 AM i have USAA also...its like $123 a month...it was $146 a month for the first 6 months though i think and then the rates went down after that...i am happy...
Spider13 10-13-2007, 03:50 PM I just renewed my policy last week, and it stayed the same. $140 for 3 cars.
motogeezer 10-13-2007, 04:12 PM How much any of you pay really doesn't matter comparitively, because everyone probably has different coverage.
"Full coverage " is different in every state, and anyone who has the state required minimums is probably underinsured anyway ;(
One can go online and compare rates easily.
There's a $1200.00 difference per year on one of my policies from just moving into the next county.......
Insurance sucks. A necessary evil.
xB_Wonderboy 10-13-2007, 04:16 PM I have Allstate, full coverage, and a $200 deductible and I pay $160/month.
CREEPINGONCHROME 10-13-2007, 06:22 PM i have allied and i pay 90.00 a month full coverage for my o5 xb and bmw 323ci! wiht 500.00 ductable.
ajayaitch 10-13-2007, 11:17 PM USAA
'06 xB & '01 Windstar
Full coverage, $100 deductible.
$95 per month.
typhoonorchid 10-13-2007, 11:27 PM I have Allstate, full coverage, and a $200 deductible and I pay $160/month.
Your paying through the a** for a $200 deductable
I pay $47.33 for the box a month. Liability and collision.
(But I do insure my house and 2 other cars throught the same company...so discounts)
I have a $1,200 deductable but I get a $50 per day loss-of-use, maxing out at $1,000. So if my car is out of commission for 20 days, that would be LIKE i have a $200 deductable.
CBSIMONSEZ 10-13-2007, 11:31 PM Me personally i think you got hosed. Insurance rates can go up as they see fit. I think the line of the car posting poor crash rating is just that .. a line. Take into considersation that your local GIECO person is nothing more then a pencil pushing sheepal that probably doesnt want to make working for GIECO their lifes event.
I have Liberty Mutual here in NY and pay 2K a year. That actually went up almost 300$ a year keeping the same coverage from when i moved over from NJ earlier this year.
Jan06xB 10-13-2007, 11:35 PM I guess getting old reduces one's insurance Progressive $335 for 6 months = 55.83 a month and I have about 5 more payment left before I own it.
bB2NER 10-14-2007, 05:06 AM Just renewed my geico policy last month and the rate stayed the same???
jamesfg49 10-14-2007, 06:20 AM My girl has Geico. Her previous car was a 05 Vue and then called Geico when she got her 06 box and her rates also went up about $35/m from $60!!!! Damn! She's 36 with a perfect driving record. I'm gonna toss her on my American Family policy and my toaster will go down to about $63/m and hers will be at $65 with substantially much better coverage (full glass, $250 collision and $500 comp 50/100 liab and un/under). I'm abso positive 'cos I have multiple policies for my Harley, life insurance and renters.
Ditch the lizard and move on!
draxcaliber 10-14-2007, 06:27 AM yeah, wow, tell your geico agent that you want to see some documentation about how your xb suddenly became less safe to operate and that you'll be taking your business elsewhere if this is how their going to treat such a longtime customer with a clean driving record.
and yeah, i pay 197 a month for maxed out coverage from esurance down from 236 the previous 6 months. just to insure my precious tc.
bB2NER 10-14-2007, 06:29 AM Cause tC owners get nailed with the sports car rate.
draxcaliber 10-14-2007, 06:34 AM Cause tC owners get nailed with the sports car rate.
that...and a few...dozen...speeding tickets...that seemed to have rapidly accumulated since i purchased my tc...but i can't seem to determine if there is any correalation between these occurances...
CBSIMONSEZ 10-14-2007, 02:13 PM Lets not forget that your credit score also effects your insurance rates as well. Low credit score, more of a risk you are to insure according to insurance companies.
coryjames 10-14-2007, 04:46 PM you want to know something funny i was thinking about making a change so i was getting quotes from geico here is a list of cars and prices compared to the xb
350z-212 a month
tc=200
08 xb-194
08 wrx 204
07 sti 399 a month ahhhhhhhhhhhh
my 05 xb 147 a month
bB2NER 10-15-2007, 01:42 AM Wow 150 a month for an xB. I pay 150 a month for all 7 vehicles. a Jeep, Ranger, Sentra and xB plus 3 motorcycles.
Tomas 10-15-2007, 02:23 AM The rates state-to-state, county-to-county, city-to-city, and even neighborhood-to-neighborhood vary wildly.
Just moving from one apartment to another less than three miles away put me into a different rate zone and dropped my rates.
Someone in NYC and someone in rural Nebraska are going to see different rates. :)
Tom
coryjames 10-15-2007, 03:01 AM they just pick the highest to insure usually i have a geo tracker on my insurance to
iKevin 10-15-2007, 03:26 PM Ok followup:
Tomas is right (as usual) it appears that it was a twofold increase.
First because of the decreased safety rating (perhaps they just started this because some of you that have paid in previous months don't have it but one other post did say theirs went up as well).
Second - the insurance rating for my area worsened . . .. And this is why I hate insurance companies. The idiots down the street can't drive and they penalize me??? This is discrimination! Just because I live around a bunch of inbreeders doesn't make me drive like them. I think it should be based on my driving record, not some statistic that says i'm more likely to drive off a bluff because 3 of my neighbors have.
Anyways, Tomas was right in that I went around looking for new car quote rates and sure enough . .. . They were higher when I put in my car type AND my address. If I changed the zip code to one for Huntsville which is 60 miles away the rates went down some.
On a side note . .. . If i changed various other vehicles the rates also decreased so clearly the 06 xB isn't as insurance friendly as it once was.
draxcaliber 10-15-2007, 08:00 PM if i my insurance provider jacked up my rates for something like that, i'd tell him i'd going to be shopping for a policy elsewhere, and have a nice day.
bB2NER 10-15-2007, 10:00 PM Mine is listed as a recreational vehicle because it isn't my principal daily driver so that might be why mine didn't go up.
Damn I have to renew my policy with Geico in about a month, hopefully it doesn't increase too much....
Right now I'm paying $44 a month through Geico on the xB and $54 on my SS Camaro(not a daily driver but Ins companies hate them). Full coverage with 250 comprehensive /500 collision deductible on both. Kinda suprising how cheap it is considering I'm about 10 miles from Mexico.
I guess no tickets since '94, being married, being somewhat old, good credit, and military discounts helped a little :)
Jan06xB 10-16-2007, 01:21 PM My previous car was a 94 Geo Metro and when I got my xB I kept both insured - my rate went down from just the Geo and the Geo only added $80 a year to the policy. After driving the xB and waiting for the Geo to be repaired going back to driving the Geo was too much of a position and quality of ride shock - whooo man was there a difference! So I ended up junking the Geo since the suspension repairs needed were too extensive.
As many others have already stated, your residential location plays a massively significant role in your insurance rates. I live only 3 miles north of the Harris county line in Texas, yet my insurance rates are almost 1/3 less than what they would be if I lived in Harris county. I am paying $110 per month for 25-50-25, $200 ded., list replacement value on everything in and on the cars, on an '08 and '06 xB. My rates would be over $140 for the same exact coverage if I lived 3 miles south. Crazy!
TypeX 10-17-2007, 04:05 AM I just put my 05 xB with 30k on my policy and for full coverage with all the bells and whistles i pay 1300 a year in NY
zero pts etc etc
i thought it was cheap.
xBster 10-17-2007, 12:03 PM Mine is listed as a "second vehicle"...for three vehicles my rate is $480 for 6 months...I even lowered the deductible on my comprehensive to $50 (i need a windshield) and added towing this renewal (for my other car). Allstate has been good to me
dz302 10-17-2007, 12:30 PM I must be the lucky guy...I'm 47, clean record and have 300/100/25 full coverage and $500 ded. My premium is $51.17/month. This includes discounts for accident free, multiple vehicle, and multiple lines.
i'm with geico and my rates went up $13.00 a month. i called and basically got told the same thing.
however, i also just joined the union at my job and hopefully they'll go back down now.
daneisthegreatest 10-19-2007, 02:00 AM i mean i thought when you go with geico you can save a bunch of money...it worked with the Flintstones and the Beverly Hillbillies...and those Cavemen are not doing too bad with all that tennis playing and penthouse partying...hmmm
