View Full Version : Some one vanalized my car window? What could have done this?

There are these marks on the car window that I can't get out. It has the words "CPR" and "4188" on the window. It also has a streak on it. When I rub my hand over the surface I can fill a bump. Any ideas of what could have caused it? I can't see it when it is dry, but once I put water on it it lights up like crazy. WTH!? Did some one spray clearcoat or use something hard to imprint it. I doesn't feel like it has been scratched but I feel a bump on it. It is like it is bruised. Any ideas of what it could be? Do you think I should go to my insurance company and get it fixed? 500 dollar deductible. =(.

Wow - maybe some writing from the factory that didn't get cleaned off properly. Start with Windex then more stronger cleaners like rubbing alcohol then acetone. If that doesn't do it then try some abrasive glass polish.

I thought it looked like factory markings as well. I tried acetone and alcohol and it's still there. =(

take it to the dealer, if its something from the factory, than its their fault

Xylene is next, maybe a sharp razor blade on a hot day then go for the abrasive polish and a buffing wheel - use lots of water afterwards and don't get it on the wiper blades.

Definitely not vandalism. See, here's the thing about vandals: they are not smart enough to use a clever technique like this, and their handwriting always sucks. This one has nice writing and a professional technique. Could you imagine a couple of vandals doing this? They like instant gratification. "Damn homie, this fool will be trippin when he washes his windshield 3 weeks from now." On top of that, these markings are meaningless. If it was vandalism then you would have a big penis on your windshield or something.

Use Toluene... I had the same thing happen to mine... Just don't get it on the paint, it will take your paint right off.

I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and see if they have anything to do with it. Even if they did, I'm sure they'll deny it. =(. My dad was trying to buff it out with some "quick-n-brite" lol. If all else fails, I'll try those products.

hey that looks like the writing they put on panes of glass to store and classify before install.
but it also looks like the price tags used car dealerships put on their car's window when they leave them outside in the sun.

That's not a used car lol. When I test drove the car it had 0 miles on it. I brought it home when it had 12 miles on it. I only had the car for 2 months. =(. Yeah I could only see those markings when the car is wet and when it is under a incandescent light bulb. I cleaned my car b4, but it was usually outside my garage. It has been raining like crazy in SF, so I decided to wipe my baby down when I noticed those horrifying letters and numbers. I thought I was going to need CPR.

yeldak, what did the writing on your car say?

Use gloves also with Toluene and MEK......and do it outdoors.......it goes right to your liver........used to use a lot of it to clean parts making jets till they discovered it kills you.....

Where can I buy toluene? I'll dress up like an astronaut for protection. Where would I dispose of this stuff?

The first thing I would try would be a simple razor blade.

Uh-oh, sounds like the work of Nicolas Cage. Don't let your tC out of your sight, or it might end up gone in 60 seconds.

I haven't watch that movie in a long time. No, I don't use a blacklight. Just a regular bulb.

Carb cleaner would be one possibility or some gas additive that contained the right stuff may take it off and you can put the rest in the fuel tank.

spray the window with windex and take a flat razor blade to the window. it will work. especially with stickers!

it almost looks like someone used the spray glass etching on your windshield but if it was vandalized i agree with everyone else it would not be tht neat or in that placemet........it would probably be in the middle of your windshield

being a ex-car dealer, and having bought hundreds of cars from auctions and other dealers the only thing that is wierd about this, is most of the time dealers and auctions write on the passenger side to keep from affecting the view of the test driver.. wouldn't make sense unless this was a factory numbering system of some sort. and auction numbers wouldn't be near that neat either

Def not vandalism-- I have the 4 numbers on the bottom driver side of my windshield too and it only appears when my windows are frosted-- i think it comes from factory because my car didn't go through a dealership-- so its either factory or port.

Either way, it will come off with many a wash. I don't think its necessary to get a new windshield

You know who vandalized your car.....

IT WAS SCION....in ninja outfits!

Yeah, just try to get it out with the suggestions above. Just put a covering on the paint so that it doesn't leak on it. Hope you get it off. If not, call Scion, then call the dealer and see what they can do about it. :)

Dude its not a big deal, itll come off eventually, with time the sun and from the times you wash it, id say about 90% of new cars have that left from the dealer it usually has the number or price or financing option etc, its not like its on the paint or anything get over it!
