Default Reviving a tC from the dead

Been wanting to get a tC for a while now.

http://woodbysrebuildables.com/vehic...a_scion_tc.htm

Front isn't pretty at all but looks like I can work with it.

I gave the company a call but the man I spoke with wasn't really an assuring guy... well more like a young teenager picking up phone calls as his part time job.

The kid told me the motor just been push back and everything is easily repairable after getting the car pull.

Well anyhow, before I drive like 4 hours to take a look at this car, what do you guys have to say about this car?

I'm winging it about 3-4k to fix this car but would you guys estimate it at?

Yay or nay?

Can't estimate how much it would cost, but I cringe just looking at it. I can't even imagine trying to salvage it.

Save yourself the grief.

If the motor was "pushed back", I would almost bet there is frame damage. It's really not worth it.

Looks like it would be more expensive than the cost of a new tC.

Well I do expect frame damage.

Reason why I bought upon this idea was because an old friend revive a 2005 RSX Type-S.

-Bought RSX-S at auction for $4,800
-Had pretty much similar case to this tC
-Pull frame
-New A/C Condenser
-Radiator
-Fenders
-Bumper
-Headlights
-Etc etc for front

Total repair cost him another $4k

In the end a 2005 RSX-S for about $9k with 16k miles.
KBB Price: About $23~24

Downside is insurance won't cover it (of course). Well it is expected but that is what you get for a savage car, just don't go wrecking it now.

I guess really I am in a mood for a new vehicle/project. I'm itching to do something.

Loaded?

All those things come standard.

It depends if you can get the replacement parts really cheap like junkyard and forums(like here B/S/T) you might be able to pull it off. Instead of replacing the parts with OEM jump strait to aftermarket CF hood, etc.

I would have someone come with you for a second opinion. remember a project car should not be a career.

Lol. Yea I don't plan on this as a career. Need a nice winter car or maybe become my DD car. Driving a Toyota SUV and Truck eats alot of my gas. But I need to keep them for (thanks to big family and alot of yard work I like to do at my home)

Replacing the airbags alone is like 75% of the price of a new tC (about 2k per airbag)

Whoa. I was not aware how much airbags cost.

Thanks TimmyT. Time to reconsider everything.

Heh... I have to admit. I was looking forward to bring this car back from the dead.

that tC doesn't too good in shape. i'd say you'll have a better tie in salvaging the parts for other tCs with minor damages that could use the guts. you'd be definitely better off replacing this car for a new one.

not to mention an new dahsboard etc etc. save yout money and buy a another salvaged vehicle in better condition. I bet the tranny is leaking. theres just a whole list of "unknown problems" that you might not be able to see with your eyes. but if this is what you want, then get a professional out there to inspect the car and give you a proper estimate to fix everything.

airbags are expensive. Thats why the first thing your insurance company asks when you report and accident is "Did your airbags deploy?".

that car would be a perfect SCCA track car, but I wouldnt purchase that to be a daily driver.

most cars, once they are in a serious accident, never feel as tight, and they certainly are not as reliable (some of those parts that may look OK will end up breaking in the next few thousand miles due to the serious impact)

By any chance did you price out tC airbags?

I would buy it, GUT it out (and sell the parts here) and turn it into a lighter weight tC built for the track. Our engines seem to be available under $2,000 on ebay when they come up (shipping is the only issue).

I bet a tC on a 500lb diet would be one hell of a fun car to whip around!

the price has already been dropped once, if you do go for it offer less than the 'newly reduced' price

Oh man, if you look at the pic before last you'll see that the "Skid Control ECU with Actuator" looks out of place. Who knows, maybe trashed because the board is exposed to the elements not to forget could of been damaged in the accident. BTW if you don't know what i'm talking about it's the box with the electronic board and brake lines attached to it, is on the left side next to the fluid bottles.

I'd stay away solely because the engine is pushed a good ways back, you only need 1 airbag from the looks of it, the drivers air bag

if you do decide to buy it though my suggestion would be to find a second one the same year thats hit in the rear and totalled or the side, and transfer the parts you need over and sell the rest of the car as parts, you could possibly sell enough parts off of the parts car to pay for both, but your probably only going to get enough to pay for the parts car, see if you can buy that one for about 2700, since I bet you they didn't pay above 2k for it
