i was washing my xB for the first time today and when i looked under the hood i noticed there was water on either side of the engine compartment and some on the battery.

then i noticed that there are no sealing rubber pieces on the left or right side where the hood meets that area - there are holes to hold them on, so it looks like they should be there??

to me this is an essential part of a vehicle as it keeps the engine compartment dry and clean...

i have had them on all cars i have owned, so was wondering what was going on...

do you have them on your xB?

it seems kinda lame that they are not there as water can get all over the battery and other stuff when it rains!

i am heading out for lunch and am going by the dealership to take a look under the hood of another xB - will post what i find...

It doesn't matter, the water would come through the grill if the side was sealed. I have never seen a car with a weather sealed hood/engine compartment. It wouldn't make sense.

i did not mean weather sealed, but like i said, every other car i have owned had them.

btw, i checked at the dealership and the xB on display did not have them either...

the fact is, there are holes to hold the rubber strip down and a track to put them in on the xB, just not there for some reason...

i have a rubber strip in the back that runs the full langth of the hood, it came that way
if you are talking about the side were the hood meats the fender, id have to agree, ive never see a car with them.

yeah, that one is on mine too...

can you post a pic of the left and right side of engine compartment so we can see the top of left and right fender and the engine bay next to that? your pic is centered and does not show the whole compartment...

that is the area i am referring to....

i located some engine pics i had of some xA's and xB's from some meets i was at and none of them had the strips - oh well...

the reason i am so conscious of the rubber strip is, when i was trying to trade in my Solara, the appraisal guy was looking underneath the side rubber strips i am concerned about for the original id tags put on during manufacturing - he pulled the rubber back on each side to make sure the fender had not been replaced...
