....Winter is around the corner I SERIOUSLY need new tires or I'll crash within minutes of driving down the snowy street/road

[I found my snow pictures of my poor car while looking through my files & I know everyone isn't looking forward to the snow]

^^ aww you leave it outside?! my baby sleeps in a climate controlled garage with a mean pitbull of a street bike next to it to keep it company in the cold winter months!

How did you wear through your tires so fast? You have an 07! Stock tires should get 40k out of them
Sometimes pep boys runs a good buy 3 get 1 free deal on tires.

Do what I'm doing, and just buy a $1000 beater from a college kid. My car's allergic to road salt, too. And my dog. And food. And acid rain. And road debris.

For Tires, I wold go to Tirerack and get Continental ContiExtremeContacts, I have them on my car and noticed improved roadholding and handling. Also they are quieter than the OEM tires. Wet grip is great and they are directional so dry handling is also much improved. I was told they do well in light to moderate snow, and people i've checked with that had them through the winter say that they are good in snow. Pricing runs $90 for 215/45ZR-17 W87.

That's exactly what I was thinking. While it is demeaning to go from a nice Scion to a potentially rusty junker - think of the damage you are preventing (salt, possible accidents) for that small investment!

Are you kidding me? It's October! Does it really snow this ear... actually, scratch that. I used to live further North, and I think I remember the first snow in October. That is just insane.

Well, it's 70 degrees and breezy here, and I run summer tires all year long :-).

I'm not sure about this one so correct me if I'm wrong, but i heard that keeping your car in the garage during winter is actually worse than keeping it outside. I guess due to the fact that if you keep it in the garage, the salty slush/snow constantly melt instead of staying frozen outside.

I still keep mine in the garage though.

Same here! I will do very perfect wax job before the first snow day and wash it every week even in 20 degrees weather. The water usually turns into ice before I can dry off. My apartment is across the street from an enclosed self service car wash not sure if it's heated; may want to give it a try. I almost slipped on huge patch of ice last winter and smack my head against my car so it will be nice if it's heated.

I live in huntington beach currently and have to go back to upstate NY later this week. I dread what the weather will be like. It's in the 50's now and I'm freezing.
